Hello all im in the market for a round diamond for a solitaire ring. Ive been in discussion with 2 different people regarding this stone. Right now im up in the air over which to choose. The first jeweler is my cousin through marraige cousin. She found me a diamond which can be viewed in the report here:

I only have the papaerwork for this diamond bc the diamond is overseas. The next jeweler has a similar diamond, 1.69 H vs2 with cut grade as excellent, and polish, symetery as very good. I looked at the diamond and did not notice much internal flaws however the gia report had many flaws marked out on the mapping. I dont have this report on hand but if you can look at this sketch you can get the idea of what was mapped out:

the key map stated clouds and feather. ive never seen a report with mapping like this ive always seen ones with slight points or tiny clouds, however this map threw me off a bit.
The diamond with the report i posted is priced at 12,500 and the one without the report is at 11,900. Im siding with the one that has the report however ive never seen the actual diamond but based on what i have provided which would you choose, and if its the first would you say based on the report it should be an excellent diamond?

The stone with the GIA report is not well cut from the numbers. Too steep in the pavilion angle for that crown angle, it will leak light through the pavilion resulting in a dull stone.

The other stone, no idea on the cut performance as we do not have the numbers. Anyway, do not judge a stone by the inclusion mapping. A stone with a few inclusion map out might not be eye-clean while those that looks like a pimple face youth might be eye-clean for the same clarity grade. Eye-clean is eye-clean.

For cut performance, we will need the table, depth %, crown and pavilion angle, the star and lower girdle facet %, girdle thickness variation and the dimension of the stone.

Thanks for the reply i guess im just too concerned with the report the diamond stood out nicely the jeweler even walked outside the shop with it to show how natural light would make the diamond sparkle. Its just every report ive seen thus far showed little specs on it and when you see something like i sketched out even though the diamond looked great even with the loup there is still concern in the back of your mind. I tried resizing the report but its still over the 100kb limit to attach on the site not sure how else to post it other then via imageshack

If you can''t see the inclusions then you shouldn''t worry about it (unless you will jus t*feel* better having a diamond of a better clarity grade).

What you SHOULD concern yourself with is the cut quality! As SC mentioned, the diamond with the report is not well cut and it will show it when you live with it. Looking at one diamond in the sunlight or in the jewelers office will not help you to determine whether it is a nice diamond. You really need to view a few different diamonds, including diamonds that are ideal cuts based on reliable certs (GIA or AGS) or at least based on the numbers. Only when you have seen a few different ideal cut diamonds in different lighting environments can you really determine whether you like a particular diamond in question. All diamonds are pretty and sparkle when then are new and clean. A great cut though will look great in many different environments and when it is a little dirty too

good point, if i were to get a copy of the report would the cut advisor help determine if the light input would be ideal based on the dimensions?

Ok here is another report i did not see this diamond but am just going from the gia report which can be found here. when i punched in these numbers in the cut advisor the report came back with:
light return : excellent
Fire : excellent
scintillation: excellent
spread: very good
total visual perfromance : 0.7 excellent with tic range

This stone might have obstruction issue, depending on how close you are looking at it. It could go dull when looking at it closely. Not that good for a ring stone when there is a higher chance of close viewing, more suitable for pendant or ear-ring stone. Read the usage warning and information on result page of the HCA. To confirm if this is the case we will need to see an Idealscope image of this stone.

I would pass on both diamonds in this case, the first is a classic steep deep with crown and pavilion angles which are both too steep and deep to work well together, the second could show obstruction or darkening when looking at the diamond at close scrutiny.
