i'm looking to buy a pair of diamond earrings for my wife for daily wear (so nothing too flashy). looking to set them up in a simple setting as solitaire earrings...To start with i'm not sure what size would be good. Her engagement ring is 1.1 carat round brilliant G VVS2 (GIA Ideal). Would 0.65-0.75 carat (per stone) be good enough for earrings to go with that engagement ring? I see some posts suggesting AGS stones over GIA. Would highly appreciate any recommendations on cut or the stones in general.

That size range is a very nice size for earrings. Earrings of that size would absolutely go well with her e-ring. Unadorned studs (AKA "solitaires") are a great choice too - plain studs are very versatile earrings that many (most?) women would also be comfortable wearing as everyday earrings.

Another nice thing about plain studs is that if you decide to up the bling factor in the future, you could always get diamond earring jackets to enhance the studs. Some vendors would also allow you to trade up to larger earring size. (Which is not to say that all women want larger or blingier earrings, but should that happen... :wink2: )

My first studs were .80 each my original Ering was 1 carat pear.....but now at 55 I have upgrades twice from 1.60 twc to 2.05 to my final and last upgrade 2.41......

I would do .90 each just under a carat each as the price jumps a lot over 1.00 each. 1.80 are perfect every day. If you feel that is to large then 1.60 (.80 each) is a very great daily size. (by the way I have never taken off my 2.41 except to clean them since I got them almost 3 yrs ago) and I have a lot of earriings tee hee...

I think an important factor to consider is the size and shape of the earlobe and the location of the piercing. Larger studs look better on a person with larger earlobes. My mom has tiny lobes and any stone over .5 carat would be too big. You do want to see some meat around the stud.

Ditto this; I would base it on the size of her lobes rather than trying to match it up to her e-ring size.
