First off, hello to all! It is amazing the wealth of information that can be found here.

I''ve been lurking here for a while during which I''ve been searching for the setting that I wanted. I''ve finally located what I want and would prefer to purchase the diamond from Bluenile since that is where the setting is from and I can''t seem to find it anywhere else.

To be honest, I have did my best to understand the diamonds but don''t seem to be grasping the concepts. Could someone please look at the setting and the diamonds available from Bluenile then give me some suggestions.

The only thing I am sure of is that I want a pear shape and want to keep my budget including the setting under $2k. The setting is $600 so that leaves $1400 for the diamond. From what I can tell that will put me around a .5 - .6 stone.

I wish the budget was larger but it isn''t and I want to try and have the ring before Christmas.

Here is the link for the setting:

Thanks in advance!!!

Gee, pears are hard to buy from BN (IMO) b/c they cannot give quite enough data for that shape like an ASET pic (or even a plain pic) to see how good it is. The setting is beautiful and would be easy to replicate - I would bet that if you contacted Jonathan at GOG he could find you one and even make the setting too.

My girlfriend liked that setting as well although she would prefer it with pink saphires instead. I would check with GOG and whiteflash, I''ve read they do a lot of custom work. They have similar channel set settings with just diamonds, I can''t imagine it would cost more to take diamonds out and put alternate with saphires. Then you''d be able to get the fancy cut stone you want with more info to help you make a more informed decision!

I will try contacting GOG and see what they can come up with.

Whiteflash is a local company since I am in Houston and I''m trying to avoid the sales tax that I would get hit with if I went through them. Only 8.25% but with a tight budget every little bit helps.

One other option I guess would be to buy the setting through Bluenile and have someone local set the stone for me.

Medic, you can double check this but, as far as I know, Blue Nile does not sell its settings without diamonds.

I really like that setting and it adds flare to a smaller stone. I did a check on their inventory and they have some Pears in your price range with the Very cut. I would call them and make sure they are eye clean before purchasing. I know alot of people do purchase from them although they don''t have as good of a reputation as Whiteflash but still do able. I say it might work for you! Good luck!

That is a beautiful setting, but Babymonster is correct, Bluenile will not just sell you the setting.

i have heard, but not verified if it''s true, that mark t at engagementringsdirect has had some success getting the same settings that Bluenile sells so you might try giving him a call or email and asking...he can get some amazing stones too so you might find yourself with a great stone and setting from him.

Delivery date is 11/21. I am on pins and needles here hoping I didn''t go wrong. Planning on proposing on Thanksgiving day when we are at her families house. I haven''t been this nervous in my entire life.....lol
