Hey
My BF has asked what kind of ring I want and in looking on websites I love asscher and emerald cut. I'm leaning more towards asscher, but I haven't been able to try one on in person.

I tried on a three stone emerald cut...the center was 2cts, with 1cts on each side and really liked it. (It was at Tiffany's and was so expensive!!!!) I tried on a round with an inlaid? round band. I liked it, but it just didn't seem like me.

I'm really into fashion and clothes, jewelry has just never been my thing. I wear my pearl earrings and my Hermes enamel bracelet and thats it 99% of the time. I'm a cashmere t-shirt and jeans kind of girl...I guess high quality but simple.

Any suggestions for some of the settings that would work for these? I'm just not sure where to start, especially since asschers seem to be harder to find. I saw one estate ring online that had bullet cut sidestones on an asscher and I think I like the simple ast deco look to that ring. but i had never heard of bullet cut and haven't seen it sanywehere else.
Also, what dimensions, ect. should I look for in an asscher?

The BF and I have talked and he can spend a good amount on the ring, and I would really like to have 1.5cts to 2cts for the center stone. How much does a 2ct. asscher or emerald cost (good quality). My mom said that asschers are a lot more than rounds, and that I would get more "ring" going with a round, but I'm not sold on going with a round. Sorry, for all the info.....this is all brand new to me!

Thanks so much for your help and expertise. THe BF is amazing, just not the best gift giver, so I'm trying to give him as much guidance as I can.

EC, and most aschers, require much better clarity and colour than a round. EC's are more expensive, ie 1.5-2 ct, then you are going to spend anywhere from $8k to $20k for a pretty stone. At least that is the range that FF has seen in his searches.

If you use the "Pricescope your diamond" area at the top of this page, you will get kind of an idea of the price range.

Welcome to PS!

Here is an example of an Asscher for pricing, you will see it is in the 16k region, but this can vary greatly, these shapes can need a higher colour and clarity due to the open faceting, same with other Emerald cuts.

Your Mom is right that Asschers do face up small for their weight, but they are a beautiful and classic understated shape, with a unique beauty. Your best bet is to decide which shape to go for, then work with an expert vendor who specialises in these shapes, such as Jon at GOG above, he sells some lovely Asschers, and also the traditional Emerald Cut. Also Mark at www.engagementringsdirect.com has an excellent rep for fancy shapes.

Here is also a suggestion, have you considered a cushion? These can be a gorgeous choice which give you the sparkle of a round but with a more unique shape.

As to the setting, if you can't find what you want, then you could consider having a custom setting specially designed for you and your diamond, some of the vendors here have produced some incredible custom settings!

Also if you hang tight, I am sure Strm will be along and can offer you some Asscher input.

I hope this helps a bit to start you off

THanks...I did an asscher search here and learned so much. Strm...wow! You know your asschers. I''ve sent BF the link to a bunch of different threads. I don''t think I need to worry! Thanks for all the great info! I''m sure that I want an asscher now and I think I like the old cut more than the RA, but of course I would like to see each in person.

Any suggestions for Atlanta jewelers that carry a good asscher selection? THanks!
