Hello all,

I found the diamond below -- which I like because it fits my budget and the length and width dimensions I''m looking for -- on Engagement Rings Direct. I''d like to know a little more about the diamond, and was hoping fellow PS''ers either with experience using ERD or with a better understanding of Emerald Cuts could help.

1) I''d like to get a better sense of how "white" this diamond faces up, as well as how it performs optically. Should I just shoot ERD an e-mail via the generic "contact me" link and ask for pictures in natural light as well as an ASET image -- or is there a more effective way of getting this information? What other questions should I be sure to ask them about this diamond?

2) Do the specs below raise any red flags for you?

Item Number : 22014918
Shape : Emerald
Carats : 2.67
Cut Grade : Very Good
Color Grade : J
Clarity Grade : VVS2
Certificate No. : 2105777760
Measurement : 9.49x7.19x4.43
Ratio : 1.32
Depth : 61.6
Table : 67
Girdle : XTN
Culet : None
Polish : Very Good
Symmetry : Good
Certification : GIA
Fluorescence : NO

Images are essential, the table is larger than the depth which needn't be a total dealbreaker but detailed photos and an ASET image are needed to properly evaluate this diamond, plus a Sarin report to get the crown height would also be very useful. Mark should be able to provide images on request. The girdle at extremely thin needs careful evaluation, you would want an expert such as Mark to check this out for you in case of potential durability issues, not always the case but this definitely warrants checking.

J colour of this size might show a touch of warmth, wouldn't bother me but it depends on you. Again Mark would be able to tell you how this diamond faces up for colour.

What Lorelei said.

Whether you find the J too warm is going to depend on your eye. I also find the table too large for my tastes (though that may not be a problem at all for you) and I''d prefer a slightly higher depth--though that''s well within norms--but the crown height is really the telling factor.

Thanks you SO much Lorelei and Hest88! Really helpful -- and just a few quick follow up questions:

1) What should I be looking for in terms of crown height? 12-14%? Why is the crown height such a telling factor? What will it "tell"?
2) Would you be less concerned about the X-THN girdle if you were putting the diamond in a halo?
3) Should I just send these questions to Mark via the "contact us" link on the site?

Many, many thanks!

Most welcome!

1) Crown height - 10% and above is a good rule of thumb. Crown height can influence fire or coloured light in a diamond, in order for the diamond to show a good amount of fire a decent crown height is one of the factors to consider.

2) Possibly but I would really want an expert to check it.

3) I would telephone if you are seriously interested.
