Hi all! I'm looking to fill a lifelong dream of owning an asscher and ran across this one online at Jewels By Grace. http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/86ct-asscher-square-emerald-cut-bezel-ring#.VWuOLs9Viko
I love love love the way it looks, but I'm a little bit concerned at the L color in the stone. Do you think this is a good price? What other considerations should I have? My ering is a round brilliant but stepcuts are a whole new world for me...
And do you think the ring looks dated? A little 90's, maybe? Not sure that would bother me but everything now is so vintage looking... I'd really appreciate your input, this is a big purchase for me. Thanks!

I think an I would be fine.
Maybe have a few millgrained lines engraved into the halo to soften it up?

Thanks! That's a great idea, it would match my existing rings better that way. The diamond is actually an L, I'll capitalize that in my initial post lol. Does that change your mind any? Thanks for the help!

Haha. I just came back to say I read it incorrectly! An L might be a bit low...hmm. Let's see if maybe there's another option with a setting you like a little better.

Great minds think alike, lol. I'm not in a hurry, and I know that the longer I wait the more I can save and the bigger my budget gets, but once I've got an itch.... I will keep this in mind but maybe not jump in right away. My diamond is about this size now, but a modern round brilliant, and I think it's an E color, so I'm just having trouble deciding if it will bother me or not. And it's set in a Tacori, so I wanted something streamlined so it would be really different. I do LIKE the setting... Oh maybe I just need some introspection.

I guess I mainly just wanted to make sure this was a good price for this stone. But maybe I'll hold out. Thanks for the food for thought!!

What size is your finger?

5.75 to 6 depending on the setting and really long.

I'm jealous.

I think if you have an e color e-ring you might not like an L color. I mean, it could be a nice contrast, but if you were "going" for somepletely different, I'd get a fancy color more so than an off white.

Oh please, judging from your profile picture it is I who should be jealous of you! That is a stunner in any size! And maybe you're right. I also love some of the fancy browns from Diamonds by Lauren, but they seems to get snatched up pretty quickly and once you add a nice platinum mounting get out of budget fast. I love something like this http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/ind...orange-yellow-vs2-asscher-cut-bezel-set-r5300 but it's just not big enough for me!! Poor little thing :). Well again I really appreciate your help, you've been so kind. I will try to keep you updated as the search goes on.

Just remember that an Asscher faces up smaller than a round. You are probably aware of that but I wanted to be sure.

Thanks, I appreciate the reminder. I was hoping that the wider bezel rim would kind of visually extend the stone so it looked larger... I think this one might be a pass though anyway. I have another project that I might go for first. But I am waiting for some more measurements on the setting from the company, so I will definitely update if I change my mind!

I have an H color asscher that is one carat, and it has a diamond halo around it. I personally would not go smaller. Mine is really tiny but is helped by the diamond bezel. I love my stone but wouldn't buy one any smaller for a ring and my finger size is similar to yours. I also wouldn't probably go lower than I color in a small asscher.

That sounds lovely, could you share a photo with me? I do think the Jewels by Grace lovely might be perfect for someone a little less... size oriented. I'm six feet tall and not exactly svelte so I can carry some sparkle.
