I''d like opiinions on a set of earrings i''ve ordered from BN. I haven''t yet received them, and would like to know what to expect.

My wife isn''t into size. Doesn''t matter that she won''t have the largest on the block. She also doesn''t have much jewelry. A mall purchase engaement/wedding set 0.5ct.

Now I would like to purchase something worthy of her putting up wuth me for 20yrs (25 including dating!) I would like to find a pair of earrings that would "knock her socks off" as far as beauty goes. She had (lost one) an older set of of "Ear Sparkles" as she calls them. They were strictly mall quality, and I think
I''m thinking that these would become something of a family heirloom, and want something remarkable.

Does anyone have an opinion on wether these stones would fit the bill? I''ve spent 2 months researching on the internet, and these seem to me, to be a pretty good comprmise on great quality vs. size, and still fit the budget ($8K).

Congrats.

I think I''d replace the second one with this: http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?__fun_frm=i&pid=LD00403374&filter_id=0

Or this one: http://www.bluenile.com/diamonds_details.asp?pid=LD00339206
What''s the thinking? Is the depth too large in the second stone?

The first suggestion has a medium floresence. I thought you wanted to stay away from flouresence in colorless stone?

The second shows a natural indentation in the grading report. Does a VS1 imply that this would be eye clean?

Not trying to challenge your response, trying to learn, so any comments would be appreciated!

Yeah, it''s deep.

Flouresence is personal. Buy it if you like it. Or not.

VS1 means that it is difficult to see at 10x magnification. I wouldn''t worry about the natural because of the VS1 clarity and the girdle is not thin anywhere.

What a great husband you are! I happen to be looking at diamonds exactly that size for earrings. I am super picky and I think you''ve picked lovely stones! But I have to tell you that I really, really would hesitate to pay for D color in earrings! G or H in ideal cut stones would be so wonderful and save you some money, too! (I am looking at VS2 clarity for earrings even though I prefer VS1 for a ring. Two .71 H VS2 diamonds ideal cut should run under $5500.). The reason I think it might be good to save some money is that now that your are upgrading her earrings, she''ll be needing a new diamond ring soon, too.

Naw, That''s the ring I married her with. It is what it is. It''s what we could(n''t) afford at the time, and to me remains a symbol of where we were at that time.

I''m hoping that the earrings will be a symbol of where we are now.

As far as G, I wanted something as close to perfection as we can afford. She is the perfect parnter, and deserves no less!

I pick them up this morning, and hope to be able to get to an appraiser today or tommorow. I just hope they match her fire and brilliance!

Thanks for your replies!

Does anyone know off-hand if BN would possibly exchange the stone? These were chosen from their "Matched Sets" of stones for earrings. If I get a chance, I will call today and inquire about that possibility. I did look through the database, and don''t remember seeing the second stone.

Thanks for your help!

whoops, sorry, didn't see that you already ordered them. well. tell us what you think!

you probably won't notice a difference. theory is that the deep one will perform worse when it is dirty.

I picked them up yesterday! They are absolutley fantastic looking. I can tell the difference between the two. The shallower stone is icy white and very brilliant. The deeper stone has more fire. (just like our kinds! one brilliant, the other firey! LOL)

I had them appraised. The appaiser thought they were on the low side of the excellent cut grade, and the deeper stone on the low side of excellent polish, but all within reason.

I gave them to her, and she loves them!

I lerned a bit thought this experience. Dianmonds are like children. You can be anal, and strive for the "perfect child", but if that is what you really expect, you'll surely be disapointed. On the other hand, if you appreciate the differences, and take them for what they are, their "speciallness" makes them beautifull and unique!

Thanks for your advise! Time to start saving for the 40th Aniv. pendant!
