Help which setting suits this cushion better

Ive gone a bought a M AVC mainly due to finding this forum. I love the colour it doesnt bother me, I like it and if putting into a Halo I I dont mind the contrast of whiter melee as I think it just brings out the warmth more.

But I totally cant decide which of these two types of settings is more 'vintage' to go with a vintage colour of stone;

Here are two settings; Ones a halo, ones a solitaire

Which one do you think suits an M stone more?

They are both beautiful...for different reasons.

What size is your stone...? What size is your finger? Are you looking to maximize coverage?

The French cuts are lovely... but the halo is also very nice. Either will be beautiful!

My stone is 0.97 and Im size J ..think thats 5.25 in US, Here in UK not very many people have halo's that I have seen, perhaps they are quite 'blingy' for us, but I have to say I love them! Think Ill have to go and find some similar settings and try on in real life to decide what looks best on my finger...

I think the second one would make the diamond look smaller since it's so wide. But the contrast on the first might bother some, that's up to you. Thanks CL2 and Gypsy, those are great suggestions, ...so I have narrowed it down the the Tacori 2620 ( think its more delicate then the GOG Perfect Halo) and this one from Beverly K. I really dont mind the warmth when its set in a Halo, I really just cant decide to Halo or not, cant decide if I will get sick of the Halo, I really love both these settings....

I also like the last one best. I'm not crazy about option 1 or 2. The are lots of pretty vintagey Tacori options too, other than the 2620. Good luck deciding!

I have the last setting that you posted and I've had two different stones in it, a 1.01 asscher and a 1.21 RB and I think that they both looked great in it. The tiny melee give lots of flash and make your whole finger look blingy. I've had an I and a J too and I've never been bothered by the color differences of the FG melee, they are so tiny that you just expect them to look and perform differently. I pick the last one. I really love the halo too, but I understand your hesitance, I'm considering one for myself and keep wondering if I'll tire of it and styles seem to be swinging in a different direction now....*sigh* it's just too hard to decide sometimes!

I feel that halos tend to enhance the overall look of the ring by giving it the extra bling and coverage, however often distract attention from the diamond (with exception of bigger stones). Do you want the setting to show off the stone?

I like the halo one or the last one you posted (I'm a fan of thin shanks). I guess with the warm color and vintage cut, I lean more toward the halo. Although I love the look of the last solitaire setting you posted, it looks a little modern to me. If you prefer a solitaire over the halo, maybe find a solitaire setting that has more of a vintage vibe?

Thanks Guys for all of your suggestions, I have thought this over long hard today and even went to try on some rings, it appears I simply suit solitaires better, they look better on my small hands, I also reckoned I couldn also get a Halo RHR some day but when else can you wear a solitaire but when you get engaged? The lady in the store persuaded me of this, so THEN I found tonight you can do a Tacori 2620 Minus the Halo in a 2638 (1st pics attached) Yeah! now we are talking,

I really love the Beverly K one, (2nd set images atttached) but the very narrow shank, like 1.4mm kinds worries me, the Tacori seems like a more solid setting...GOG have my M stone on hold till Tues am then I really have to bite the bullet and decide, cant go on with this head melting I think im becoming obsessed which isnt healthy!..I prefer the Tacori setting but the Beverly K prongs...

Oh and there is $1k difference between the twoi...

I am a solitaire girl myself mostly. But I am going to have to say that with a lower color AVC a carat or under, I would put it in a halo. I think the halo will highlight the warmth of the diamond and also add some size. I do think the Tacori 2620 is a very good compromise because it is not really like a full halo and just gives a little extra size appearance. I also think an AVC would look great in the Vatche Grace. My choice would still be for the 2620 in the halo - but if you want to keep a halo for a RHR, then pick the Bev K and save your money.

Since you prefer the solitaire style, I vote for the Tacori 2638. I do like the prongs on the Bev K but that setting just doesn't do much for me. Plus all those prongs could end up overwhelming your stone, since its just under 1ct. I think the Tacori would be beautiful!

Regarding Halo's I agree that the 2620 is really a 'bloom', thats why I like it and it is a kinda compromise between the full Halo and Solitare.

Ive now ruled the Bev K one out , I do love this setting but its mainly due to the very narrow shank, I know what Im like, (very clumsy!) and have a terrible tendency to loose/break things so dont want to take the risk which such a prized possession as a stone..

I have however found a Bev K type replacement through this forum again - the Ritani 4 prong micropave (without Halo - pic attached) Personally I prefer this to the Bev K as it has a much nicer side profile, love the sparkles on the basket and has a slight thicker band (1.7 - 1.8mm) but still thin, making stone pop. This setting seems popular on PS so I can imagine what it will look like easily by seeing photo's of others. That is my issue with the 2638 - I cannot find any pictures of someone having put a cushion into that setting, plus I wonder does it not really better suit a round stone..plus I think I like the Ritani basket side more, so Im ruling 2638 out.

So that still leaves me with the 2620 'Bloom' Halo and the Ritani 4 prong solitaire..Im still swinging wildly between the 'Halo or not' debate, driving me mad! Haha well I have to place the order tomorow so only another 24 hours of head melting, I think Im taking it all too seriously, I mean either setting is lovely..pity I dont have a local jeweller with the 2620 in stock to see how it looks on my finger..

I will update decision tomorrow and post the pics when it arrives! Thanks again

BUT is it just a durability issue with the Bev K one?

While I don't know the stats on this particular ring - it's very similar to the Bev K but probably a bit more "substantial"

Well I finally placed the order,..... at last!! and I went with the.................................2620.
Thought I'd update all of those kind enough to reply, my thought process ended up there as the Ritani was same price as the Tacori 2638 solitaire, so I reckoned I'd get 'more ring' for same money with the delicate basket details on Tacori 2638. ALso the Ritani has a very open basket and that would show the M colour more as the warmer stones show it from the side more. However I was also worried a 0.97 stone would look small in the 2638 solitaire setting and also that the AVC just looks better in the 2620 which has a more vintage vibe, along with the M Colour, I thought I should stay 'vintage-y.' and let the stone dictate the best type of setting....

I agree with Gypsy that I really dont like huge double claw prongs on smaller stones... as I saw a 2620 cushion with them on it and agree it sort of overpowers the stone. So I asked if I could have 2620 with single 4 prongs, - they said no it has to have the double, so Ive asked them can they make them short 'stubby' ones, like the 2620 round ( attached)

Lynda at GOG bless her has been soo patient with me Im sure Ive been a nightmare asking lots and lots of questions and requesting lots of photo's of other customers rings...but I think Im making the right decision...just got to wait now to see how it turns out, she said her setter can work with me on the prongs when ring arrives if I dont like them, so all in all GOG have been as good as gold to work with, absolutely FANtastic customer service, really second to none.

Update!!
A few days ago my head went silly and I feared Id made a mistake ordering a halo style and asked GOG to cancel 2620 order and send it to Mark Morrell cos I found his Fancy Torchiere setting with heart shaped prongs and fell in love!! I really like highs settings though ( which is why I originally liked the Tacori 2638 (attached) so I asked MM if he could make the prongs/basket taller. He said no for a one carot stone he wouldnt like to do that and it interferess with the process he uses to make rings......

Poor GOG I must be driving them INSANE with my indecisiveness. Im going to ask PSers agains which one do they prefer?

MM Fancy Torchiere with lower basket or shank width 2.5mm not tapered, gorgeous prongs
Tacori 2638 with higher basket and cathedral style? Shank width 1.8mm, tapered, basic prongs....

I don't know if this will be of any help, but I actually *prefer* the whiter melee on a halo with a diamond of lower color, I simply LOVE it.
Never understood why people want to hide the natural character of the color of their diamond.

I purchased a 1.04 N AVC, am currently having GOG set it in a vintage plat setting with a tiny bit of side melee.

I don't like the last one in the pic you posted as much--is that the MM fancy torchiere? It doesn't feel vintagey enough to me.

I do really like the pic you posted that has noted: ring & eband, & i like the halo.

I agree re the Mark Morrell Fancy Torchiere and Im not going ahead with it and I think I want to go back to a Tacori setting for a more vintage look, but Im having SUCH a hard time picking a setting, theres too many!, now I really like the 2510 (attached) but do you think it would over-power a 0.97 stone?
