Help? Where to get a dress in So. Cal?

You all are making me nervous. Everyone has there dress - more than a year before their wedding. I have lost of ideas about the ceremony, reception, gift baskets etc. --- but no clue about dresses - never been a bridesmaid and I''m the first of my sisters to get hitched.

Where should I go shopping for a dress in LA and Orange County?

Hm... have you tried looking on herecomestheguide.com? Do a search for so cal bridal salons. All the salons listed there are screened before they''re listed, so most are reputable stores.

My future cousin-in-law got her dress and the BM dresses at Mon Amie. They thought everything was great (selection, etc.) except that they said the salon will rip you off on the alterations after urging you to buy a dress that''s WAY too big. They found this consistently for all the dresses they bought there.

Just something to keep in mind!

Depending on your budget, Mon Amie has a large selection of gowns there with many of the top end designers so they can be really expensive! Marry Me Bridal now located in Orange, have many of the same styles that Mon Amie has, but at slightly cheaper prices. Jaclyn''s Bridal in South Coast Metro Area has some really nice gowns with great service. Jinny''s Bridal in Huntington Beach is on the more inexpensive side, and has a fairly large selection also.

The best thing is to just try on lots of different styles and fabrics. What might look on the hanger as being a blah gown, might just be the perfect dress! Good luck and can''t wait to see what you finally choose.

It''s okay. I felt just like you do. This whole forum made me nervous, it seemed like everyone had it together and I was just like ARGH! what do I do?
I actually started out by going with friends to David''s Bridal. I was completely nervous and felt like a bull in a china shop, but I''m so glad that my friends made me do it. That helped me get a general idea of what exactly people are talking about when they say A-Line etc. I tried on a bunch of dresses and got a general idea of what I liked.

That trip was like breaking the ice. We went to several salons after that.

The way I found my dress was different, though. I found a particular dress that I wanted by looking online!
Mine''s a Maggie Sottero, and I was just looking at her website when I found it. When I found the one I knew I wanted to try, I clicked on the website to find stores near me that sell that designer. I called around and found a store that had my dress available to try on...and I bought it!

Good luck, it''s not that bad, it''s fun really, once you get used to it! A girl friend of mine is still looking for her dress and I''m having so much fun helping her. Hard to believe how freaked out about it I once was!

I got my dress there 20 years ago, and it was by far the nicest salon I found. There might be more now (weddings seem to be a BIG business), but they had beautiful, different dresses, and the atmosphere was really wonderful.

check out this website to see an exhaustive list of of bridal shops in southern cal. i used this to make a list of shops in LA within a reasonable drive of where i live. i started with david''s bridal in Torrance (smaller than I expected) and Alfred ANgelo in Beverly Hills (huge store). the david''s bridal in costa mesa looks huge but i haven''t gone in there.

i agree that you should start with a lot of different styles so start with a big store. and be open to what the consultant brings you (within reason, of course!). it may not look or seem like your style on the hanger but they really do know their stuff (in most cases). when my consultant brought me my dress i was like "no, I really don''t think that''s me" but that was the one i ended up getting.
