Okay...i''ve perused this site for awhile and i''m deciding to post. I need help!!! I''m getting a little paralysis of analysis. I''m looking for:

Princess
1.00 to infinity ct.

Best cut possible...

Now there''s where the certainty ends. I know the ideal table, depth, etc. percentages for this shape. I know color and clarity scales blah blah blah. I want to mount this stone on an angle or "kite" mount in white gold, 4 v-prong, etc.

My question(s) is this: I want the stone to appear colorless. Can I achieve this with an H color stone when mounted? I also want the stone to be "eye-clean". Is it worth it to make the short jump to VS2 from SI1 so that I don''t have to look at 1000 stones to get one that is "eye-clean"? I realize that SI1 is supposed to be that but I''ve seen a few stones that I swear I can see tiny inclusions but at one point I had better than 20/20 vision...I''m getting a little shop weary. Finding a stone isn''t that hard. I''m curious about what sites anyone would recommend. I''ve visited James Allen, Blue Nile, Whiteflash, etc. My problem is once I find a stone, can I get an idealscope analysis and sarin report, etc. without having to buy it or put down a deposit? How many stones will I have to do this with before I find one that is ideal cut. I want the most fire and scintillation possible and I''m willing to sacrifice on the "c''s" that really aren''t visibly appreciable once any stone is mounted. I want to spend no more than $6000. I think this is very do-able considering...Sorry for the eternal post. Please help? Thanks

Well, I don''t know much about princess cuts, but if I were looking for one, I''d start my search by looking at stones with the AGS0 certificate. That way you don''t have to suffer through all the numbers to get a well cut one!

Color is SO personal. But yesterday I did have the opportunity to view some diamonds outside in natural light and I found J and K too tinted for me, I color was borderline, and H and above were good. Looking at color in jewelery store lighting is useless, so it is hard to really assess your personal preference for color.

I also personally prefer VS for an e-ring stone, but again, that is just my preference. Plenty of people here are happy with SI stones. But it is trouble ordering stones to look at and send back, so if you are sensitive on clarity at all, then VS2 would be safer.

Good luck!

I agree with Diamondseeker. Also, Whiteflash provides the sarin on all their inhouse stones and can be viewed on their website, no charge. Goodoldgold also provides a ton of info on their stones online. Jamesallen will give it to you if you ask free of charge also. As for princess stones, I would also look for ones with AGS0 b/c they are going to be super. I''ve heard WF does have some also check with Wink Jones at winfields, he carries them as well as Icemine and Pearlmans.

Holy Crap!!! Thanks for all the help. This is exactly what I''m looking for... The knowledge that these sites provide the Idealscope, etc. is great. Here''s one of my last questions (i hope

) Is it possible to buy an amazingly sparkly stone online? This is my first online experience, I know about the money back from the reputable sites. I guess I''m looking for a minimum amount of hassle.
(as if there are those out there who want the max amount...

Here''s my experience. My husband said at our anniversary last December that I could look for a diamond ring for our next anniversary. So in January, in doing a search on diamonds, I found PriceScope. I am an analyzer by nature, and having been burned in the past in buying some other diamond pieces which were uncertified, I was determined to find high quality at a fair price no matter what! Thankfully PriceScope provided the education I needed to buy a quality stone! So after hanging around here for about 6 months and figuring out what I really wanted, searching the sites daily of the best vendors here, I finally found two stones that were great prospects at Good Old Gold and had them sent to us to look at. I chose one of them and returned the other and they refunded the money. Prior to that I also sent for two other stones to look at while I was still in the process of learning what qualities I wanted, and both promptly refunded my money, no hassle whatsoever.

These vendors have a lot at stake because people do post postive and negative experiences on here. So I find that to be a very big thing in favor of buying online from one of these vendors. If I go to a local jeweler, I do not have the advantage of hearing feedback from scores of purchases, nor do I have a way to report my experience, good or bad, to others on a wide scale. So I felt far safer buying here, especially from a vendor that has the stones in-house and can provide verbal feedback, photos, and other tests on the stones. This was such a good experience that I am now looking for some smaller diamonds for earrings!

Incidentally, I bought an H VS1 (round) myself, so I''d probably favor that last stone I posted since it''s also an AGS0!

yeah, thanks for the input! i''m definitely going with Good Old Gold when the time comes. Gotta sell a house first.
