Hello again ... I''m here with another couple of questions for the experts.

I recently bought a 2.24 ct round brilliant H SI1 GIA Excellent Cut/Polish/Symmetry diamond (table=56%, depth=61%, crown=34.5°, pavilion=40.8°, HCA=1.2) and want to eventually set it in platinum. The diamond is beautiful and appears to face up quite well, but I am having second thoughts on having an H-color diamond. Am I being nuts?

How much does color impact the sparkle/scintillation/fire of a diamond?

Would I be better off getting a slightly smaller (approx. 2 ct) G-color stone? I am so confused.

Thank you!

Hi Meticulous,

I''m no expert, but I have stalked PS for a while

From what I gather, color does not affect sparkle/fire/scintillation as much as CUT. If you have a well-cut H or I, it will *SPARKLE* regardless of its "lower" color. If it appears to face up well and you like the color, then I wouldn''t worry about it being an H. If it is well cut, it shouldn''t make a difference.

That''s my two cents.

I'm just a consumer. To my untrained eyes, color doesn't impact actual sparkle, fire, or scintillation. My canaries sparkle as much as my white diamonds. There may be a complex scientific reason that color makes an impact _somehow_ but I can't see it.

And an "H" is still very white as far as diamonds go, so I wouldn't worry about it. It will look lovely in platinum, as long as you are not setting with "D" stones--not that it's bad, but then you might notice the color of the "H" more. But it will still sparkle.

Sounds like you have a beauty there! set it and forget it.

Hi meticulous, I think it is really common for people to buy a diamond and have "post purchase dissonance" - meaning, you start second guessing yourself.

Once you get used to that 2.24, it might be harder to switch it back to a 2.0 even for a better color. H color is not at all bad and your stone should sparkle no matter the color.

I bet it is a beauty!

Blue, Orange, Pink, Yellow..
