Hey there everyone,

I was recently given this diamond out of an old platinum ring. I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to older diamond cuts and was hoping maybe some of you could take a peek and give me your opinions? I'd really appreciate your thoughts. From what little information I've been able to scrounge up, I'm thinking it could possibly be a transitional cut. Unfortunately, I don't believe I've ever seen one in person before, so I don't have a real basis for comparion. Out of curiosity, I tried bringing it to a local jeweler and he was vague about cut and simply stated it was an old miners cut, about an I color and SI1 clarity.

Here are some photos... my camera (and abilities as a photographer) are kind of cruddy....

Thanks!!

Need to see it magnified . If you go to google type in old miners cut and old european cut it will show you the actual cuts and facets you and can see where your stone fits in I will try to add a couple here brb first two are old miners

Smaller table but shallower stone, and not as steep/high a crown an OEC would have.. Looks Tranny to me!

You can take a photo from further away, like you are now, but focus the camera better. On the computer, crop the image to only have the diamond rather than resize the whole photo.

Thanks for the links, I'll have to go check them out...

Madelise - It is more on the shallow side, with a small table and the crown is not as high as with an old european cut. That's what had me thinking it was a transitional. I'm horrible with photos, but if I have an opportunity I'll try what you suggested to magnify the pictures. Thanks!!

Hi,

Wrong shape for an Old Mine Cut. Looks like a Transitional but better pics would help!!!

It's hard to tell without a clearer pic ;))
