Hi all! I used to be a member here about 6 years ago when I was engaged, but now I can't find my user name, so I'm back and brand new. :)

I've attached 2 photos of my rings (specs: platinum; the diamonds in teh bands are G/H; the center is F, VS1, princess, 1.50 carats).

I'm really enjoying the concept of the halo rings, but I really would prefer not to get a brand new setting. I like my setting, I like the little "hidden" diamond underneath it, etc.

My husband has asked me if, for my 30th birthday, I'd like an eternity band or some other diamondy thing. The only real jewelry I wear is this and a 2 carat inherited solitaire on my right hand that means a lot to me. I hate to say it, but I hate that the family solitaire on my right hand looks bigger (I mean, it IS bigger) and blingier than my wedding set. For this reason, I like the idea of halos.

I keep seeing things like this, but no actual pics of one before/after with a princess: https://encrypted-tbn0.google.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcR3XMoyJ8Kv4VUcdI0Drew4LTttdeobKIVjerqagoOjQRKYrDNN

Does anyone have something like this? What's your thought on them? I'd like to have something custom made (most of the in-store ones are at mall shops and in gold; I'd like platinum to go with the rest of the set).

Are there any other options you all can think of? Anything I could do with my current wedding band as part of it?

You all are so brilliant with this stuff and I just fail at jewelry in general, so I have no clue what my options are.

EDIT: Sorry the attachments are so big and the photos are so bad (cellphone); I can't figure out how to shrink them.

Edit: S

It looks like your setting has a peg head: a good jeweler should be able to pop it out and replace it with a head that has a halo (which would rest neatly on the cathedral shoulders).

Alternately, a ring guard like the one you posted could work ... though if it were me I'd just have it reworked. Most of the ones I've seen are a little bulky, and for such a significant anniversary, I'd want something that I could either wear all the time, or wear by itself - the guard you might want to take off some of the time because of the size, and it's not like you can go in the opposite direction and wear it alone ....

Interesting. You mean the "V" that the diamond is in -- the entire "V" could be taken out and replaced with a "V" containing the original stone in a new halo "V"? lol

I got the setting originally at Christian Bernard, but when they went out of business my "lifetime guarantee" went with it (they're back now, but with a new insurance company so my original guarantee is gone.)

Yep, I'll attach an image of a 'peg head' that looks a little different than yours. Basically, this allows jewelers who sell a lot to 'customize' based on what the customer wants. I think any PS vendor who does custom could see about removing the peg head portion from your ring and attach a head with a halo.

Thanks for the feedback!

Do you think that's a good option? I love the halo look but if it's just a "trend" I don't want to be disappointed in a few years and "miss" my current ring, which is why some sort of wrap seemed plausible.

What other options are there, if any? Although I'm pretty excited about the idea about having the head replaced, I'd be curious to know if there are other options that do a similar feel around the ring, even if not in a halo. Hmm.

I think a halo is going to be the only option to make a princess cut look larger. But I think you need to contact someone like Steven Kirsch to get a quote on this project and what would be possible.

Thanks! There's a local jeweler here who does custom work who I'm going to go talk to - I'm hesitant to mail my engagement ring to someone and/or do this online.
