Hi All!
I'm working on my first custom setting ever for my 2.5 carat emerald. I'd love for it to be just a bit different from the every day halos you see. These are two different drawings I've received. I'm leaning towards the one on the left with the regular halo but going with a plain band (except for 1 surprise stone on each side) and putting melee on the basket like the non halo one. I'm looking at 2.6mm for the shank but have contemplated going with 3mm.

I'm sure I'm missing things and would love to hear thoughts! I'm not hard on my rings at all and always remove my rings for anything physical.

I like your ideas but I would stick with 2.6mm shank. If you put melee along the bottom of the head (where it meets the shank) then you will have
issues with it rubbing a wedding band (is this an ering or a RHR or?). I do like diamonds on the side of the basket (where it holds the stone).

I would like the option though to wear it on my left with this little simple band I have. It doesn't have to sit flush though. I don't mind a bit of gap. I struggle with "seeing" what something is going to look like before the finished product. House shopping, forget it, I can't even picture the paint in a different color. Lol.

I agree with tyty... I wouldn't go thicker than 2.6 (I'd actually go with 2.2ish mm, but that's just preference). I would forego the diamonds along the bottom of the head, for obvious reasons. The side diamonds on the basket are a nice touch that will make it more unique and provide a little extra bling to enjoy.

...and I adore a gap.

Have you considered almost combining the two ideas? So having a (mostly) plain shank that's on the thinner side and do the halo with diamonds on the top AND side (and maybe the basket support struts, or whatever they're called)... kind of like a diamond basket for the diamond.

Yes! I love this idea!

On the side profile, I think the basket is kinda meh and I usually see my ring's profile more than top. Could you add some detail that would make the ring really just yours? Elle is amazing at adding those kinds of details.

Both are lovely, but you said, "I'd love for it to be just a bit different from the every day halos you see." Not being critical, but these don't seem to offer you much deviation from the norm.

You could keep your rounds for the halo, but use a baguette in the band with a round to tie it together (unlike the below which are their "blazs" cuts what look like caliber cuts to me).

Or really mix make the holo unique.

Excellent points, RockySalamander! I love that second from the bottom ring but can't really pull off something so delicate. My style tends to be industrial with sparkle. No filigree, milgraining, floral aspects, etc....here are my inspiration photos and an idea of my styles. I was hoping the surprise stone on each side of the shank would make it stand out as different since most halos I see have full pave on the shanks. I'm leaning towards halo for the extra finger coverage. :)

Yay! The honey zircon was mine! It was a stand alone RHR, so I didn't have to worry with the diamonds rubbing another ring.

I love love love your ring!! I'd like the option to wear a little band with it but that's definitely not a deal breaker. If I could have your ring with a halo OMG!!!

You can! Just do it!

Got it. My brain is kinda stick on 'unique'. What about an underhalo instead of the typical one. That would add a real unique look while still being clean. For an EC, I'd change the claws to double claws, but this still feels very industrial. Also eliminate diamonds along top of band if you want to wear another band. Adds a bit more coverage...
