Hi all,

i have been married for a few years now. I need some help to decide! I have always been tempted to change the setting of my ring to a vatche setting. But the setting itself cost $1500 or more....the concern is

1) the diamond itself its not that much, (princess cut, vs1, F color, 1 carat) compared to the settting. Should I spend more money on the diamond? Do people actually upgrade their diamonds after years of being married? i feel kinda bad for upgrading it. Somehow ifeel that the engagement ring should be there forever or something. If i upgrade the setting, i feel like upgrading the diamond too.

2) For those who are married, do you wear the engagement and wedding band together? do you have them matched so that they can be worn together?

i am really looking for a big overhaul of my rings.

I don''t think we can tell you what you should do. I guess its a personal choice whether you upgrade your setting - diamond - or both.

How does you husband feel about this? Is he happy for you to change it? Do you have the finances to upgrade?

I still have my original engagement ring. I will always keep my original e-ring diamond but will change the setting soon as its not a very well made one. As for my wedding ring - I am buying a new one next year. I also have a new diamond ring which I wear on my wedding finger.

I don''t feel that I should wear the same wedding ring - its the being married thats important to me (and my husband). He doesn''t care what I wear - as long as I wear something!!

I also have new rings but kept my original ones for sentimental reasons. I think if I were in your position, I''d wait and reset once you can get a new diamond. Or if you want to use the original diamond forever, then go ahead and reset it!

Hi,

Well, I think you can upgrade your setting and it will feel like, and be, a brand-new ring. Settings can be quite elaborate and very pricey so if you are reluctant to part with your stone (or your husband is), I think you can bedazzle yourself with a new setting.

However, I personally don''t feel there is anything inherently wrong with trading up for a new and different diamond. As long as your husband is on board with the plan. Of course it''s $$$$$$$ and you could have a brand-new ring by changing the setting to something completely different.

Just a couple of options - either way, it''s a fun project and of course, this "new" ring can be sentimental too.

If you are able to keep the old ring and get a new one, that''s what I would do! Though sometimes you want the "trade in value" by exchanging the old stone for a newer one.

Have fun!

I kept my original ering and had the diamond and diamond accents put in to a heart pendant. I love it.

I got a new ering and wring set last summer and am very happy with them.

I think what you do is a matter of preference and how much money you want to spend. If you love your diamond and just want a new setting; I see no reason to just mount your diamond in a new setting. If you want both a new diamond and a new setting; then go for it.

Have fun shopping and deciding. I will be anxious to see what you do.

You could certainly upgrade and keep your existing stone...my suggestion would be to keep the original princess cut center stone and have it set in a pendant so it will be "close to your heart!" (you might use that line of thinking when talking to your hubby about a new set of rings!) Many people upgrade even after just a few years of marriage, do a search for "upgrades" here and you''ll find a ton of threads on that subject.

thanks girls...honestly i do feel a little attached to this diamond. When we got married we didn't have a lot of money and we didnt' know much about rings, and diamonds. My husband and i went to look for it together and he took alot of time checking out the specs, we found this one for a pretty good price and i just picked whatever set they had at that store without really looking around for more options. Now i feel that is not the style i really like. The good thing is, the place where i bought it lets me trade in the stone if i wanted a bigger one. WEll i thought since i am changing my setting now, i can upgrade at the same time. :D i guess i will look around for the diamonds and see if i see any good ones comes up. So yeah i dont want to spend a fortune so maybe getting a new set would be a good options. i'll keep you girls updated! thanks!
