Hope someone can help me. I just received my e-ring yesterday, and I''m leaving on vacation next Thursday. Apparently the appraisal that came with my Whiteflash diamond is NOT sufficient for insurance purposes - since it is in U.S. dollars. It doesn''t make any sense to me.

Anyway, I tried to follow-up with Harold Weinstein who is recommended on here, but the earliest they can take me is next Wednesday, but I don''t think gives me enough time to finalize the policy with my insurer.

Does anyone have a recommended appraiser in Toronto that might be able to take me on short notice? I am located in downtown Toronto, and I am not picky, although I would prefer not to just cold-call from the Yellow Pages.

Any help is appreciated.

You can try

European Gemological Laboratory/Toronto

Toronto, ON M5C 1R6
Ph: 416-368-1200

or

IGI Canada

Good luck and don't forget to post your experience!

Contact Whiteflash or the guy who prepares their verification documents (sorry, I forgot his name but it''s in the document). They may be able to restate the values in Canadian Dollars and deliver you a revised report without needing to re-examine the piece.

Thanks for the replies.

EGL is going to let me know if they can fit me in early next week, while IGI wanted $230.00 for an appraisal! (vs. $65-$70 for Weinstein and EGL.)

On another note, out of curiosity I contacted State Farm, and they do NOT require a Canadian appraisal. I''m almost tempted to switch over my policy - it''s only a Renter''s Policy so it''s very straightforward.

Thanks again.

I''ve set up an appointment with EGL. Has anyone dealt with them in Toronto? For the appraisal they want me to just "drop off" my ring, and then come back and pick it up. Is this normal? Is there anything I should do to protect myself? I know I''m being crazy - but I just got the ring last week so I''m still a bit paranoid. Thanks!

An update for everyone:

I visited the EGL office in Toronto this afternoon. Met with David Carabott - we left the ring with him for just over an hour. Everyone in the office was efficient and friendly, and I had no hesitation leaving the stone. It was $85 plus tax, and the appraisal should suffice for insurance purposes. I''d recommend them.

But - one curiosity, which I understand is fairly common. On my AGS certificate, my diamond is graded an SI1/G. On the EGL appraisal, the diamond is graded at VS1/F-G.

And be forewarned - the value that I was given was more than twice what I paid.

Ash.
