Hello all. I''m new on this site and have read alot but still have alot to read on this site. I''ve found it very informative so far. Here''s the low down. I''m looking to purchase a ring in the next month or so. I''ve purchased alot of jewelry from Reed''s Jewelers, however I''m not sure I feel comfortable purchasing something of this nature from a chain store. I''ve heard of people not really getting their moneys worth. My lady has found a ring however from this place she absolutely loves picture here: http://engagement-rings.reeds.com/Princess-Plus-Three-Stone-Diamond-Ring-1-1-2ctw-plu18750596.html?npDataSet=categoryProducts

I''m curious if anyone has seen anything similar, that I can buy just the setting. I''ve also been looking into the James Allen site, that I''ve heard of. Does anyone know if they can get or make custom settings? Any help would be appreciated.

I haven''t seen that setting before so I can''t help you there. James allen is a well respected PS vendor and does do custom work though.

Hey Rainman. The models you see on the PrincessPlus site were created exclusively for that particular brand of diamond by it''s manufacturer. Regarding purchases from chain stores, you should check if the certs on the jewellery are made by independent appraisers or in house. If the certs were provided by a known third party (not associated with the retailer) it should be OK. Regarding getting your money''s worth you should compare it a similar item in order to be able to compare.

Not necessarily. Still need the data to evaluate the report. A third party report does not necessarily mean it is a good stone. Some grading labs tend to be more accurate, and a stone having a report does not mean that it is a good stone. There are plenty of ugly stones out there with third party reports. If you see a stone you like and can get the data on it (crown/pav angles, table/depth, etc), then the pricescopers I am sure will help you to narrow your selection.
