Hi Everyone,
My partner and I decided it's time to shop for a rock.
I've been looking at James Allen, Bluenile and Brilliant Earth and in stores locally. I'm at the point where I want to purchase but I'm so overwhelmed by the process.
I'm going a simple solitaire (four prong) with white gold comfort band.

I'm looking at a budget of $3K or $4K USD for the diamond only.
0.8 Ct - 1 ct.
LW Ratio 1.35 - 1.45
H or G
Eyeclean

Below are some that I have been looking at.

Any suggestions on where I should/shouldn't spend my money are appreciated.

JA will provide you with 3 ASET, so bear that in mind.

Of those you posted, I like #1 very much in terms of performance -- you'll have to decide if the inclusions on the right side will bother you/hear.

http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/index.php/jewelry/107ct-j-si1-oval-diamond-r7813 (color aside, this is the best one I've seen for the ratio and it eyeclean. DBL is a great vendor and will share more photos and will tell you if there is any color concentration in the tips---I see none. The ASET is textbook. 7.93x5.66x3.64, 1.4 ratio; but, you really need to be sure your girl is ok with a J. I will say that I highly doubt it ever looks as brown/yellow as some of the photos as that would be more like R/S IRL. So, don't discount it until you chat with them. It is a holiday in the US this weekend. If you go with them, they can make your solitaire as well)

I'm going to post a bunch more that have performance potential. You can decide if their lack of compliance with the ratio know them out of the running. Its hard to find nice ovals with longer ratios as they tend to have a huge bowtie and lots of mush. You'll want to put any of these on hold you like and then request ASET images.

ASET HERE: https://enchanteddiamonds.com/v/0908Z1864 {aset looks acceptable, no inclusions that I can see on the table.} JA has the lower price.

Posting more for educational reasons. Look at this stone and ASET as compared to the F VS2 above. Can you see why the above is better?

Outside your brief.
This is a lovely antique marquise. Look at that spread! Click on the video tab. It is very chubby so it has an ovalish look.

Thankyou Rocky Sal, I really appreciate your in depth post and will consider Diamonds by Lauren and also consider the other James Allen diamonds that have potential. I will even put them on hold and get the ASET images. Thanks so much for your guidance and direction.

Thanks TyTy,

Thanks again everyone.

I ended up going with the attached as suggested by Rockysalamander.

Enchanted diamonds had $1000 off ring settings so I purchased directly through them. They also are going to cover return postage for any rhodium plating each year. Quite good considering I am international.:D

Great news. Can't wait to see photos.

ring.jpg Thanks everyone for your advice on the ring. So impressed :)

It is gorgeous but we need more close up photos. In fact, we INSIST :mrgreen2:

A note of caution with shipping your ring backwards and forwards for plating - be careful you don’t get hit with import tax each time. Plating is easily done by any good jeweller locally and I think should be inexpensive. But having said that I am not sure of the prices in Oz. Worth checking tho ....

Congratulations to you both.
