Help! Thoughts on a 1.64 GIA Excellent Cut H VVS2

Hey everyone. I'm looking for an engagement ring, and I've done a lot of research and looking over the last few weeks. I've visited a number of jewelers, and finally found a stone I like. Its a XXX cut 1.64 GIA (Cert # 1166641384) H VVS2 for $14,300. It passes all the tests and numbers I have been looking at in terms of cut. I'm prepared to buy, but wondering if I should maybe downgrade the clarity for a better color on a bigger stone?

Any thoughts would help!

I think that is a really good price so you may not gain much at all by going down in clarity.

Look, one of the lowest priced vendors has 1.7 H VS2 (7.6mm) ex cut for $14,106. The stone you have selected is almost that diameter and you are getting the higher clarity almost free. I'd buy the one you have found if the cut is great! (Just looked at the report and it looks fine!)

I'd agree with DS. I usually use bluenile to gage if a lower priced diamond could be obtained with different specs and it looks like you are definitely in a nice range for your combination. I'm sure you could spend weeks looking, but that certainly looks like a nice value pick with everything factored in. Nice job!

I was thinking the same thing. I was looking for similar specs for a long time but lower clarity and I was looking around the same price for SI1 and SI2. Your stone seems to be priced very well. I contacted B2C during my search and found them to be very professional and helpful. They seemed honest and got me the images I requested fast. Good luck with everything. Hey everyone, thanks so much for your opinions! I went back today to check it out and asked if there was anything with a slightly better color and less clarity, just for peace of mind.

The other stone I did see that caught my eye was this 1.71 G SI1 GIA XXX(Cert 2186635281) for $16,600. While the proportions weren't as ideal, there was something about that gave it an extra sparkle. Let me know what you guys think, or if I'm making the right choice with the H VVS2.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I think it depends on how sensitive the wearer is. Some people, like me, can see every flaw and blemish and clarity becomes very important to them. Some people are less sensitive to clarity and more to size, or color. Just a general thought.

Sandy, thanks for the thoughts. That definitely makes sense, I just wanted to make sure I'm not missing something major about this stone since the table is 60% and is a 2.6 HCA (as opposed to the .8 HCA of the H VVS2 I am looking at).

I'm planning on making my purchase tomorrow, so any other help or thoughts on the GIA 2186635281 stone would be great!
