Help -- SI1 stones and D-F Colors -- a good deal or trouble

I''m fairly new to the diamond search but have done my homework to educate myself in the basics. My goal is to buy a a stone in colors D - F. I want to keep a high quality Cut (ideal cut if possible) as I''ve learned from my research that Cut appears to be the most important of the C''s. I can get a D-F stone in my budget if I lower Clarity. Should I have any concerns of having a D-F stone with a Clarity of SI1?

This may be a stupid question but does the colorless stone make it easier to possibily see inclusions in a SI1 stone? Any other questions or concerns I should have with a SI1 stone?

I hope to purchase soon but if colorless stones and SI1s are not good fits then I want to make sure I know that before buying.

The color of the stone has nothing to do with the ease of spotting inclusions. And yes, you can find a completely eye-clean SI1, I know I have one. It''s just that no all SI1s are eye-clean, you basically have to check each stone or have someone, like a trustworthy vendor or independent appraiser do it for you.

Caveat is that I am a relative newbie when it comes to diamond too...

a colourless stone will not make the inclusion more visible.. the clarity is a separate issue. ( I believe)..

I have seen quiet a few SI1 in my diamond shopping, some of them are "eyeclean" while some of them not.. I was "taught" during my diamond purchase that a SI1 diamond with more smaller inclusion is likelier to be eyeclean than a SI1 diamond with one single inclusion.

Also inclusion on the table is more visible than inclusion along the crown. The type of inclusion also affect the "eyecleanness" of the stone..

But to answer your question simply.. a colourless stone does not make inclusion more visible.

I originally seek to buy a VS2 stone because I was worry that inclusion will be too visible with SI1 but I am glad I got a SI1 in the end because it is still eyeclean and the money can be used for something more visible like colour and size.

Thanks for the feedback. I''ll be looking at the stone next week. I too was one who that I would buy VS or VVS range but if the SI1 is clean then it fits my budget. I think spending my money on CUt and Color is the way to go.

Any other SI1 hurdles to watch for?

Until you reach the point of eye visibility, especially obvious eye visibility, or a potentially easy to damage cleavage, clarity is to my thinking the least important of the parameters for your diamond. Cut is the greatest contributor to the beauty of your stone. For those who like the high white, then color. Many prefer the warmer tones, and they are the lucky ones, since their costs are the lowest...

But yes, you should be able to find many stones that are incredibly beautiful D-F colors and totally eye clean SI1''s and 2''s.

Would you consider buying a G or H, dropping the color, and getting a bigger stone for your buck?

I bought an I/SI1, looked at G''s and F''s, and I could not tell the difference. Have you tried to look at others colors to see if YOU can tell the difference? Just my 2 cents.
