I’m going crazy trying to decide how to set my diamond studs. The stones will be arriving back to BG tomorrow and they’re ready to make the settings; i just need to finalize what i want!! :oops2: I have flip-flopped four times already and am almost to the point of asking BG to choose for me and just send the bill

I’m told the re-cuts ended up being around 1.7ctw and roughly 6mm each. I’m attaching a photo of my ear with 6mm studs in them so you can decide if I have the real estate to pull off some of the options. These will be daily wearers, rarely out of my ears.

Please vote in my poll and, if inclined, tell me why you made that choice. Thanks!!!

Six prong. Classic never goes wrong, and the style goes with anything.
I like eight prong for old cuts and bezel for smaller stones.

My vote's for 6-prong martini, too. There's just too much going on with the 8-prongs for me. And I prefer bezel settings when setting colored gemstones to bring out their color.

The six prong will show off your diamonds beautifully.
Classic chique and not too much going on. The diamonds will be the stars and not the metal or an overload of prongs

6 prong

I voted 8 prong martini! I think having an 8 prong is a slightly different take on a classic. 4 and 6 prongs are so common that all the ones I see on people just seem like cz's. 8 prong shows that its from a jeweler or at least special... at least what I think.

6 or 8 prong! 6 is very classic while 8 looks beautiful to my eyes (although I’ve seen people commenting in the past they think it’s too much metal).

I am not a fan of the martini setting personally but do love 6 tiny delicate prongs on diamond studs. Looking forward to seeing what you end up with!

I voted simple milgrain studs because you might be losing a bit of diameter from the recut and a milgrain will create an illusion of slightly larger stones. But if you are hesitant and prefer prong set, then I would do 8 prongs. They will be beautiful either way! Can’t wait to see!

I vote for the classic 6 prong martini with that size stone. It's less metal and makes the diamond stand out. I can't wait to see eat shots.:mrgreen2:

I'd say milgrain or double milgrain bezel. The u shape of their bezel is very comfortable. It is also their stock option. That means they bang these out so often they can do them in their sleep. If you don't like the bezel in the long run, the options for reset to nice prongs are a plenty.

I voted millegrain bezel - streamlined and simple for daily wear, plus a small size boost. I love the classic 6 prong too though.

I have had the same 5.7 mm studs for the last...18 or more years and I have never wished for larger. I voted for the six prong because of the classic nature. My studs are in a classic basket setting I have worn them for everything: everyday, my wedding, everything and I have never wished for larger. I think for something like this you will be happy to whatever feels classic for you.

Thank you all for your thoughts so far. I’m reading them with great interest and, if nothing else, it’s confirming why I keep flip-flopping because as of this posting it’s a 50/50 split between 6-prong and bezel set

My thoughts, for what it’s worth:
- I love the prongs because of their delicate and classic appearance. They’ll never go out of style.
- I love the bezels because if their antique vibe, no prongs to possibly snag things, and the small boost in size to make up for the .2mm I lost with the recutting. All of my other daily wear items are also bezeled.

Please keep chiming in!

I vote milgrain bezel. It fits with your antique asthetic and you said you will be wearing them daily and that's more in keeping with your style.

Plus there are a lot of people that wear simple prong studs daily (real and non-real) so I would be all for something a little different. :wavey:

They do gorgeous milgrain bezel settings, and I would definitely do it on that size stone because they will look more like 7+mm instead of 6 if you prong-set. Plus I think the milgrain bezel will complement your wedding set more.

Tough choice! If you go with bezels, I’d choose the single milgrain. However, since you mentioned all your other daily wear are bezeled, I think having a 6-prong pair would be a nice addition for some variety. I went from bezel to a 6-prong and love it. Can’t wait to see what you decide!

I voted for the milgrained bezel. I love the look.

I tried not to peek before I posted, but did read a few...but nonetheless Invoted milgrain bezel because I have small 4 prong studs and feel that yours would look unique with bezels and it would match the type of jewelry you already have.

I vote migraine bezel. I have a pair and wear them every day, they are comfortable and I just luv ‘em!

I also voted for the milgrained bezel! :kiss2: I agree with others that it will go beautifully with your wedding set and give a slightly larger appearance (your smaller lobes could handle it!).

double milgrain bezel!

Ah, well will this update, I'm changing my vote to milgrained bezel! I think we all have a certain aesthetic that we gravitate towards. Sounds like bezels are yours =)2 I would go with prongs only if you prefer the look.

I voted for 6 prong. My reason is that I think the prongs are barely visible if done in wg or platinum. They are so neutral. I love bezels but I would want a pair in platinum and a pair in yg!!!! It's easier (well, cheaper, lol) to go with martinis.

I have 8-prongs on my martinis (.66ct each) and love them. That said, I would love a 6-prong too, the 8-prong setting was just cheaper ;) I feel like they're secure as hell, but I don't see a lot of the diamond from the side due to all the prongs.

I am in the milgrain bezel camp too! I think it will compliment your wedding set and have more presence on your ears.
