Hi there,

I'm a longtime forum stalker and think I have finally narrowed down my selection to a few diamonds that I wanted to get the group's input in regarding overall value -- is a 0.91/H/VS1 worth the $1500 premium vs. 0.83/G/VVS1? Both are Tiffany (ideal) cut, and the make proportions are comparable. Obviously an argument could always be made that if it's affordable, spend more -- but I would definitely be able to put the $1500 difference to good use for the two of us.

There is also a potential 0.85/F/VVS1 for the same price as the 0.91 that I'm considering in the background.

Thanks for any input you all can provide!

Any numbers (angles or crown/pavillon height/depth)?
As for the clarity colour, I would probably buy the cheapest (0.83 VVS1/G) :-)

Mastercut:
the 0.83 has table 54, crown angle 35.3, pav. depth 43.1. it also has med fluorescence (which to me is a non-issue)
the 0.91 has table 60, crown angle 35.0, pav. depth 43.3; no fluorescence.

Is there an appreciable size diff between 0.83 and 0.91 that would justify the cost? I agree that clarity and color differences between the two would favor the 0.83/G/VVS1...

Sorry, I forgot to ask for the total depth too.
Well, I would say (in general) 0.91 VS1/H shouldn´t cost 1500 more than 0.83ct. VVS1/G

It might be a function of Face up Size, the 0.91 is 60% Table, while the 0.83 is 54% Table, so might be facing up larger or smaller than average compared to the two stones.
I would recommend putting both stones into the HCA tool to see how the cuts measure up (since GIA Excellent can be a range of things)

Thanks guys. I don't have all of the info available to calculate the HCA for the 0.91 but the 0.83 has a 2.3 HCA.

Anyone else have input?

We really can help you if you get the 4 measurements needed for the HCA, and we need the diameter measurements, too. (Table size is not the face up size, the diameter tells the face up size.) Try to get the pavilion angle.

Just realized I have some more info on the 0.91 (depth 61.5, crown ht 16.5) and 0.83 (depth 62.7, crown ht 14.2). So the HCA for 0.91 is 2.7. Unfortunately I don't have the diameter measurements - but any insights based on this info?

From my appx. calculating it shows appx. 6.2mm diameter for this 0.91 and appx. 6.00mm for the 0.83ct.
Well, both sizes for me are nice (but some people would even a 7.5mm stone call "not enough" :-)).
Choosing from these stones I would choose the 0.83.
But actually preferably I would choose none of them and keep on searching. This is what I would recommend you :wink2:
