i just noticed there are a few scratches on the top of my emerald cut stone (diamond). they appear to be very superficial and i really need to look hard and turn the stone into the right lighting to see them. should i be concerned? are scratches able to be polished out? it''s not a very large stone, and no one would ever see them, but do they pose a problem to the stone, as in fracturing?

I would take it to be cleaned so you can check if they really are scratches. Sometimes when my stone is dirty it looks like a few scratches and then I clean it and they are gone.

I'd do what Skippy recommended. If the scratches are still there, they can be polished away. Scratches do not cause breaks in stones-so no worries there.

I agree with Skippy, take it for a good cleaning. Then see...

It also could be a graining issue...

That was my first thought. If so, it won''t affect anything structural. It probably isn''t worth trying to polish out either.
