I have really short fingers, like tiny, not to mention, fat. My bf and I have been looking at engagement rings for the past two months and I feel like I''ve tried on a hundred rings and haven''t fallen in love with any of them. I just don''t like the look of anything on my fingers. I love cushion cut, but I''ve found that many jewelers don''t carry many that I can try on, especially in the size we''re looking for (approx. 2 cts). I should also mention that we have a family friend who is a jeweler who we will be going to to get the diamond.

Has anyone else found rings that look good on those of us with stumps for fingers? I should also mention that I am not a fan of marquise and I''m afraid that something like an oval would make my fingers look even shorter. I''ve included a picture of my hand with a ring so you can see just how short I''m talking about. I''d like to see others with short fingers and their rings.

Thanks!
A

Go with a thin band like the Micro pave legato from WF. I''m not saying this one will work for a cushion, just that this thin 2mm type micro pave will not overpower you hand.

Also, after you do some reading on PS, you''ll realize that the "family friend" getting you the diamond is not necessarily the best route to take.

Lots of folks on here recommend contacting Mark at Engagementringsdirect.com for cushions. He is "da man" for cushions. He can suggest a beautiful setting that will be right for your diamond and small hands.

I absolutely love the work that Leon Mege does...simple settings with elegance worthy of such a gorgeous cushion. Check out Boston Jeff''s pictures and you''ll see what I mean. artofplatinum.com

Last plug is in case you decide to go for a round - I would check out Whiteflash or Good Old Gold. Both have Hearts and Arrows diamonds. WF has their ACA A cut Above line, diamonds that meet their specs for H&As, which will be gorgeous stones that I''m not sure a family jeweler friend would be able to source for the $ and/or quality anywhere near what WF or GOG could offer you.

BTW, a 2 carat cushion may look way too big on your hands! Why not go a bit smaller? I''m 5''0 tall, small hands, and think that it might look more attractive if it doesn''t overwhelm your hand, which a 2 carat cushion might.

Good luck and Welcome to PS! Your ring is lovely!

Your hands are FINE, silly girl! Quit fretting!

Most of us have *something* we'd love to change about our hands... but can't... so just try not to think about/worry about it. Just wear a beautiful, sparkling diamond and no one will notice much else!

Look everyone! A chance to show off my ring again! Hehehehe

Stubby mitts got bling...

I wear these hands everyday!

If I had bigger hands, they'd look pretty funny to me after all these years.

Go girl, find that ring and flail that diamond around!

cinnamon, this is a really beautiful picture... your diamond looks breathtaking! Like a living flower....

I don''t know what short fingers are LOL If your fingers are fat enough they look short :D

Thanks! I am hoping to provide inspiration to acm21!

I think the Ritani Endless Love setting without a halo would be beautiful. Here's an example with a RB, but it would work for a cushion:

Neatfreak has a beautiful cushion with a thin band...not sure if it's Ritani Endless Love or not, but it's a great example of what a cushion would look like in that setting.

Edit: Aha! Here's one with a 3ct cushion:

I'd also recommend a smaller stone so it doesn't overwhelm your finger...

Yup, mine is the Ritani endless love.

Here is the thread with the best pics of mine:

One thing I would caution actually is that the Ritani is VERY thin and a friend of mine tried it on at the store who has very short chubby fingers, and it was so thin it kind of got lost on her finger if you know what I mean.

I actually think something a tad more substantial might look better. Don''t shoot me.

I agree. I think too thin a band will make chubby fingers look more chubby. I actually LOVE the look of that split shank halo ring on your finger! Just make it a bit more delicate and add a little pave and a cushion diamond and there you have a gorgeous e-ring! If you want a single shank, I''d go with about a 3mm band which is thin, but not too thin.

I feel the same way.... well if the fingers are short and tiny then those are the hands that I think look *best* with very thin delicate rings.... I think if your hands are too big it can backfire and instead of the band making the diamond look big it makes your fingers look bigger. I think wider bands look better on me... more proportional. I don''t know that I have short fingers though.... they''re not long just average.

This kind of ring i think will look the best because of "broken horizontal (across the finger) line, it might be tension might not. Just not by-pass model - not 2 parts of the shank going around the diamond from opposite sides symmetrically.

ETA: i think i made a diamond about 2ct.

Honestly, I''d get the style that you like instead of trying to find something that looks good on your hands. If you don''t love the style of your ring, you won''t be happy. Honestly, I think that your fingers are pretty and that the ring you have on and irina''s mockup both look lovely...and I imagine other styles would too.

I think you're smart to want a gorgeous AND flattering setting! I don't get people/women who buy a beautiful ring or wedding gown that's all wrong for their finger/body type. Form + function rules!

So: I think you can do better than the setting you're modeling; that said, I could see a different split shank working.

As a member of the short stubby finger club, I found skinny wasn't good, thick wasn't good, but a tapered shank combined with a head that took up some real estate worked pretty well. Or if you are interested in a 3-stone, a round flanked by two pears or even baguettes gives a similar effect IMO. Have you tried anything like:

I ended up with a vintage setting, but Irina's design does something similar by making the eye swoop across the finger.

Welcome to PS, ACM 21!

I have to say first that your fingers are not fat/chubby/whatever...but if you think they are and want a ring that will make them seem slimmer you''ve come to the right place, we will help you!

Irina''s (PS admin) suggestion is gorgeous, and a very slimming style for your fingers. I can also understand you not wanting a marquise or oval...have you thought about a rectangular emerald cut center stone set in something very simple/slender? To me, the cuts of diamonds that will most elongate the finger visually are the marquise, the oval, and the rectangular emerald cut, maybe even a pear or trillion cut! A RB is of course a beautiful choice but the setting and size will make a big difference as far as slimming your finger.

If you spend some more time on PS forums, you will notice talk of "finger lipo" meaning that many women who post here long for slimmer fingers, so you are not alone! I have a size 6.75 ring finger and thankfully I''m really tall and have come to accept my size, but I''ll never wear a size 3 or 4 ring, in fact I told my DH before we got engaged that I needed a large diamond because I had a large hand, lol! Maybe you could talk yours into the same for that reason?!
