Hi there,

I''ve been browsing this site for the last few days in search of hints and tips for buying an engagement ring and have come to the conclusion that I need help from the experts!

I''ve found that the more I look the more I get confused.

Here is what ''I think'' I''m looking for:

Budget: around $4500
Round Diamond
Carat: 0.75 - 1.00
Colour: D - F
Clarity: IF (based on it being the best) - VS1
Cut: AGS0

Appoligies if this is a very basic list. I did say I needed help!

Suggestions on Clarity and diamond size would be a great help, as I probably wouldn''t know the difference between an IF and SI3, as I have had next to no involvement with Diamonds myself in the past.

Any suggestions would help...

Many thanks in advance
Nick

Hi Nick, and welcome!

You should definitely be able to find something in that size range of a very nice quality, with your budget. I'd suggest dropping clarity -unless you have eagle eyes you should not be able to see a thing in that size in a VS2 or even SI1, as long as the stone is well-cut. I personally like the colorless stones, but dropping to a G may prove no different to your eyes and save you some $ as well. You can run a search here on PS by cut quality, and enter your parameters. I just did a quick one and got a really good number of options. For example:

0.9 F SI1 AGS 0
0.75 E VS2

Best of luck, and feel free to ask more questions... you've come to a great place for answers!

PS. Staying just a tiny bit under the 1.00 ct mark will also be kinder on your budget. There's a price jump right at one carat.

quaeritur,

Many thanks for the warm welcome and advice.

The stone you have highlighted looks very nice and compares well using the Holloway Cut Adviser. I'm using this as my diamond 'bible' at the moment

I will indeed post more questions as they crop-up, and I'm sure there will be a few

Thanks again
