Help Request for Sarin Scanner file

My jeweler scanned one of my diamonds with the Sarin DiaScan. I have a copy of a text file output of the scan. It lists all the angles and dimensions of all the facets. I was offered a .srn file, but since it was binary, I didnt think I''d have any use for it.


I am attempting to build a 3D model using my CADD program, (just because) - but am having trouble understanding how to interpret the Crown Star angles (16 of em).


I can see how the 8 Crown Halve Angles are measured, as well as the bezel angles. But for the Star angles I cant determine where or what the angle is measured from and to.


Any insight - from someone who understands the diamond''s geometry as well as the Sarin text output file - would be greatly appreciated.

 
The 16 crown facets will be the upper girdle facets. The 8 bezels are the crown mains, and the 8 star facets are triangles descending from the table to meet at the junction of the bezels and upper girdles.

Your names for the facets match up with what I had previously understood them to be, it''s just the sarin output seems to be referring to the stars as "halves" and the upper girdles as stars.

Anyway, in order to draw the facets in the CADD, I have to know the angle (or slope) of the ridge between the upper girdles from girdle to point of star. The sarin file provides an angle for both of the upper girdle facets that make that ridge.

You have appropriate slope relationships. I infer we’re looking at a rendering of crown.3.angle.1 and 2 (ugs=cr3) crown.2.angle.1 (bezel=cr2) and crown.1.angle.1 (star=cr1), correct?

Interesting that the output refers to 16 stars and 8 upper halves. Can you indicate where? Some of us here know the product manager for Sarin - that info may be useful to him.

Get the sarin .srn file.... and the software viewer from their site www.sarin.com and you should be able to see "automatically" what your trying to reproduce, what is seemingly the hard way.

You should be able to see graphics and wireframes, and an mnf report sheet which summarizes all the facets groups for you.

Your jeweler should be able to reproduce this on his computer if he has the dia pro software.
