Hello everyone,

As some of you know I just purchased a Princess cut Diamond from Whiteflash. Its a VS2 G color. The thing is is that when I got it I had it sent to an appraiser and he didn''t say anything bad about it. Whiteflash also had the diamond sent over from another vendor before sending it to the appraiser and they said it was eyeclean.

When I got home I was looking at it and I put it table side down and while I was looking at it I saw what looks like a black hair floating in the middle. I sent the stone back to have it set in a ring and told them to look at this to tell me what it was?

As of right now they think its a reflection of an inclusion???? Doesn''t a VS2 not suppost to have anything I can see with my naked eye or even with a 10x magnifier. And how can a reflection of an inclusion look like a floating black thread??? Can it be carbon????

What should I do??? I just spent a LOT of MONEY!!! You cannot see this when it is sitting table side up, or when it will be set in the ring.

Diamonds are graded Table side up. If you cannot see anything table side up or when it''s set you got what you paid for.

Is this a mind clean issue now?

Clarity is graded from the TOP of the stone, so VS2 and SI inclusions can sometimes be seen from the pavilion. You''d have to specifically ask that if you wanted an eye-clean diamond from all angles, and you might be better off going with VS1. Sometimes the setting will obscure any inclusions seen from the bottom. But I know how you feel, I don''t like to see inclusions either.

So is what I described sound like a reflection of an inclusion?

The jeweler should have a microscope and be able to tell you 100% whether it is an inclusion or not. All round diamonds will have a girdle reflection that looks a little like a crack across the bottom of the pavilion, but I wouldn''t say that looks black at all.

I see this girdle reflection in my OVAL too. So maybe the Princess has it too? That could be what you see. The first time I saw it I thought it was a crack on an inclusion it''s kind of dark grey looking, not black though. A jeweler will be able to tell you what it is.

The grading report should have the inclusions plotted. Is there an inclusion plotted where you are seeing the black mark?

Yes somewhat. But I didn''t think inclusions looked like a black thread.

Some inclusions are black, some are white, and some are clear. There are other possibilities as well.

Did you cert mention internal graining by any chance?

No it didn''t say anything like that. I just called WF to see what they came up with but my contact was on the phone. So waiting to hear back.
