Hi there, Well I'm new to all this diamond business an buying an engagement ring in the uk. Only been to a few shops so far but some have been a little misleading in terms of the 4Cs in terms of mentioning clarity and colour and not even mentioning cut. So I have been doing a little research but any help would be really appreciated.
We are after a platinum ring, solitaire and just one diamond in a round cut and looking at approx. 0.7c. The platinum ring we have seen so far that takes our fancy is the following
http://www.diamond-heaven.co.uk/product-details/212/round-diamond-engagement-ring?scolourid=0 Which we believe is a fairly stock item being available in many shops. I think its been made by Dominos in Birmingham but not 100% sure.
In terms of the diamond this is what I think maybe the best option is the following if I have read things correctly
Probably go for following
Cut:Excellent (Most important factor for the sparkle)
Clairty:VS2 (probably not worth paying higher as cannot see them unless under a microscope)
Colour:ForG (should be ok on the platinum band, or do we need to go for D/E)

Any help would be much appreciated. Not being a diamond expert I am thinking for going for a GIA certificate. I guess this will raise the price but I would like to know what Im getting for my money and Im no diamond expert.

Any tops / help etc would be really appreciated

The information you've shared looks good. Stick with GIA Excellent (AGS) and use the HCA tool to see if the diamond is worthy
of considering.

I'm in the UK too and when I bought last year found it a nightmare to get what I wanted and know what I was paying for. In the end after seeing a couple of recommendations for a particular jeweller I sent an enquiry to them. I was able to choose a diamond via their website and ask their opinion on what I wanted to achieve. All in all I was pleased with the service, the advice, the price and eventually the finished product. Unfortunately not many jewellers in the UK know about HCA, AGS diamonds, ideal scopes etc. I found PriceScope and the HCA after I had ordered and even though my ring came out at 3 on the HCA, I'm really pleased with it, beats anything that the high street jewellers could offer. The jeweller that I used was www.stevenstone.co.uk... Good luck in your search.

Thanks for all your help so far. I had not heard of the HCA tool yet, but just had a look and it looks as though it will be worthwhile. I for instance had a look at two GIA report for tow diamonds which had both excellent cut, F colour, VS2 and the results came out very different. One came out with Two Excellents and two very good and a score of 1.7. Another came out with a score of 4.7! Is that correct. Is there anything else I need to look at.
