help please!!! is this the right choice?

Hello all,

I recently went through the engagement ring hunt and looked at many loose stones. I finally put a deposit on this one particular stone and then came across this site. I wanted to see what everyone thought about the numbers. I put it through the HCA and it does have a high number which I am shocked because it looks gorgeous in person! But i have read about it doesn't favor pavilion angles above 41. I also paid 21.5k cash, please let me know what you think.

the way some people on this board talk about a pavilion angle of 41.4 is starting to scare me. it looks very nice in person but could i be getting better for my money?

I would be concerned about a pavilion angle of 41.4. There is more than just the numbers, though. It is always best to buy from someone who will provide an idealscope image to show whether there is leakage or not. In the case of your stone, I would not buy it without an idealscope image.

This is an ideal cut stone as close as I could find to what your specs are. It shows an idealscope and ASET image showing minimal leakage in the well cut stone. (Price is $20,528 with pricescope discount/wire payment).

Hey all! So I've compared this stone to many other stones and haven't found a better one. What I'm asking basically is even with the 41.4 pavillion angle, is there the possibility that this stone has great brilliance. I love the shine to it and even compared it to an ags 000 and thought that this gia excellent performed better than it. Any thoughts ?

At this point, I would advise you to trust your eyes. If you've liked the diamond's performance under different lighting conditions and preferred it to others you've compared it to, I would keep it. It may not be the most "ideal" diamond proportion wise, but if you're like me, you might have a hard time telling the difference anyway.

I have a diamond with a 33 degree crown angle and 41.2 degree pavilion angle and really love it. I have yet to find a lighting condition in which it doesn't look beautiful (with the exception of one very bright mall jewelry store). I've gone to Tiffany's and compared my diamond to theirs (granted not all of their diamonds would be considered "ideal" either) and was unable to notice a difference in fire or brilliance.

When buying online, "ideal" proportions are extremely valuable predictors of the beauty of a diamond (as is the HCA). However, IMO, seeing a diamond in person allows you to broaden the parameters a little since you might actually prefer the look of a diamond with slightly less "ideal" proportions. There are different flavors of diamonds, and this wouldn't be the first time someone actually preferred a less than "ideal" diamond (some have purchased GIA very good over excellent because they thought it was prettier).

I would not buy just from what you see under the jewelers lights. I would make sure to view the diamond in LOTS of NON-jewelers lighting conditions.

I would be concerned about the pavillion angle too. But again.. it's just one factor. Can you buy an idealscope and use it to check the performance?
