HI I am looking at a diamond and I have been told it has a gia cert. and I have a copy of the cert, and that the diamond can be identified by its features. I am wondering if this is normal if a diamond has been certified should it be laser inscripted.. ???

if not can you have it done? and is there any way of guaranteeing the diamond you have is the one certified by gia?

thank you

cheers

No. It's normal. Not all diamonds are laser inscribed with the lab report number. Mine isn't.

Yes you can have it inscribed.

If you can't identify it yourself, go to a GOOD independent appraiser. Where do you live, we can recommend a good one. Most well, aren't good.

My EC is HRD certified, and when I bought it, I was asked if I would like to have the certificate number laser engraved at no extra cost and I said yes.

DK :))

Hy guys I am in Brisbane Australia and looking for a reputable grader/valuer to view this so I can be sure it is the diamond.

cheers :D

A little confused by the OP and the question...I thought all GIA certified diamonds had some sort of an inscription on the diamond itself that can be seen with a loupe? If not then how can you tell the diamond you received is the one described in the report?

Inclusions are like birthmarks. Most stones are included and all you have to do is loupe your stone to find out if its a match. If it isn't or you can't find your inclusions (mine are nearly impossible to find) then you can go to an appraiser or look through a stronger loupe.

So are measurements, particularly if you have an appraiser with a Sarin and a good eye for grading.

Don't know anyone in Brisbane. You can call Gary Holloway and see if he knows someone out your way.

Diamonds that have a GIA diamond dossier are inscribed, those with the full GIA report aren't routinely unless it's requested. As Gypsy says, depending on the clarity, some inclusions can be handy ' birthmarks' so you can familiarize yourself with your diamond using a loupe so you know it's your stone.

Ah interesting, didn't know that. I'm getting mine appraised anyway so that should be helpful. Especially since it's a VVS1 and I'm not able to find any inclusions myself (which is a good thing I suppose :D )
