I think in general, I would recommend buying princess cut stones from WhiteFlash, Good Old Gold, or Brian Gavin because they specialize in excellent/ideal cut princess stones. The ones at James Allen mostly are just not of the same cut quality. You'll pay a little more, though.

Of the ones you posted, many of them have tables that are too large, as far as I am concerned. You can see that the WF ideal cut princess stones have tables in the 60-70% range. So of the ones you posted from James Allen, this one looks like it might be okay.

If i go down to H color would there be a noticeable difference

That's difficult to answer - it's subjective. Everyone views colour slightly differently. Some are very sensitive to it, whilst others, not so much. Just be aware that with a princess cut the colour can show in the corners, although I'm not exactly sure how much of an issue this is with a 1ct-er.

Whilst I've heard you can go as low as a J in a princess cut and still have it face up white - my advice, unless she's OK with it, I'd stay with G or above - especially in an engagement ring. However, if you really are needing to go below G to get the size you want, then you really do need to make sure that you get the best cut stone you can.

Thinking about it, actually, you need the best cut stone regardless!!

agreed, i want the best or almost the best quality cut. any suggestions for a 5500$ budget for stone?

I'm probably not exactly the best person to help you - perhaps one of the more experienced forum members might be able to provide more advice. I'm pretty new here.

When I was looking at purchasing a princess cut (which I haven't done yet due to the budget, and I keep changing my mind!!) my searches lead me to the conclusion that the Solasfera was probably the best princess cut currently on the market - but i haven't seen it in person.

If you could get out to Good Old Gold to have a look at their stones for yourself, it may help you. Alternatively you could ask them to make a video of say:
Solasfera 0.84ct G VS1 - http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/9231/ (5.0x5.1)
1ct J VVS2 - http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/9101/ (5.6x5.5)
1.12 F VS2 - http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/7257/ (5.7x5.4)
so that you can compare them for yourself. That way, you'll know for yourself whether you think the Solasfera is for you. I know on paper the Solasfera won't measure up, but I think you'll be surprised at how it performs compared to the others - it's light performance should give it more of a "presence".

If you do get them to do a video, re-post a link here so I can see!!

Anyway ... these are all just suggestions! It gets pretty confusing sometimes.

I really like this one, but the color scares me.. does anyone have an "I" diamond that may be able to provide some insight? I dont want it to look yellow..

You could order it unset to check out the color? Or go to a store and look at different colors in person (make sure to compare AGS0 cuts and look in diffuse lighting)

Like I said, I'm not expert. I'm not sure about the table/depth %'s! But otherwise it looks good.

As far as the colour goes - there are those who would insist on nothing lower than a G - but, if the stone is well cut, then I think the cut should mask the colour.

Besides, dropping down a colour grade or two for the extra size, would be something I'd be willing to do (5.9x5.78)! But as I said, this is a very personal preference - it's not for everyone, so just be aware of it. Most people taking a glance wont notice the colour - but if it is compared to a high colour D/E/F, you probably will notice it. It wont be yellow - but there will be a difference.

Have you seen an I in person?

If you do get GOG to do a video for you, ask them to take video of all the stones upside down against a flat white background - this is where you'll notice the colour the most.

This is a select diamond, so they don't actually have it in stock and probably haven't evaluated. You can't tell a whole lot about a princess by the numbers, but I don't like that it isn't square. Also, I don't think the girdle is very good (hopefully someone will comment on this) since 1. it goes to extra thin and 2. it covers a wide range of sizes.

When I was looking at princesses for my fiancée, I saw an I color Solasfera, and I remember being fine with it. I opted to go with a G after all for the peace of mind, but if the diamond is ridiculously well cut, you could drop a color or two.

i saw that diamond and it really caught my eye..

You may feel the VVS1 is overkill but here is a very rare Cut by Infinity Princess.
I believe Infinity has suspended cutting of princess cuts, but a few still remain in the vaults.

I don't think you can get better light performance in a princess than Cut by Infinity.

1.09 ct G VVS1 $8,508.

8500 is a little out of my price range

I found this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ho0RNQfPMlc&feature=plcp&context=C4dbf8faVDvjVQa1PpcFOi1RBEjNMNS_6LFhpqZ2EeRbsI_hm0i2c%3D and although I can't be 100% certain, I'd assume the 1.12 F VS2 he's referring to is this stone http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/7257/ - although he says in the video that the F VS2 comes with a lifetime guarantee, that's not what's reflected on the website - its only a limited guarantee.

Conveniently, they've got it sitting next to a solasfera - so you can see for yourself the difference.

I see they've also got this one in http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/9336/ - AGS Ideal - not quite the 1ct, but it looks good to me. I don't think visually you'd be able to tell the difference between this at 0.94ct and a full 1ct.

Have you made any decisions?

still looking, I found one I really liked but it was gone before I purchased it.. any in put you may have is welcomed! I didnt know this process was going to take so long! haha

Not sure about the Blue Nile option. Need more info eg, Ideal scope/Aset images
BG is a nice size at 5.90x5.61 - but again need more info, eg Ideal Scope/Aset images. That's only a sample image
WF is 5.49 square
GOG is 5.34x5.36 - and nearly $1K cheaper

Assuming the BG ideal scope/aset images check out, I guess it all just comes down to size - and I'm not sure how noticeable it would be, depending on your setting - particularly between the WF and GOG stones.

If it's a mind thing to be over the 1ct mark with VS2 clarity, then I understand, but otherwise considering the price of the GOG option, you could very well be paying money for attributes that otherwise wont visually make much, if any, of a difference. The GOG option means you could have a great stone and great setting!

Just a quick note that the last princess you posted has a "limited guarantee" - so no upgrade policy if you decide to upgrade in the future.

good point, i didnt notice that

I still really like the WF one.

These are what I am looking at.. as always any input welcomed and any other suggestions as well! Thanks!!!

I like the WF stone best and the GOG second but there isn't much in it as they are both beautiful AGS0 diamonds. The WF has the marginally better ASET but I do like the smaller, rounder table of the GOG stone. (The other stones don't have enough information to assess them.) If it was my money I would probably buy the GOG and spend the extra $1k on an amazing setting.

Don't forget that the WF one has an extra 0.15 mm in both length and width.
