Hello All,

I am in the market for a 3ish carat cushion cut diamond. I have been looking on Blue Nile as well as James Allen.
Knowing that there are no solid rules for cushion cuts since they are preference-based usually, I was hoping to get a little feedback on some diamonds I am choosing between on Blue Nile.

I appreciate all of the feedback and advice, I'm very excited!

James Allen Stones:

I wouldn't say that any of these are great. I'd say all the James Allen ones are not good at all.

Did you realize all the Blue Nile stones have either very strong or strong fluorescence? That usually brings down the price. I actually like fluorescence, but very strong can cause haziness sometimes in sunlight. I'd be very careful about that and have an independent appraiser look at the stone for you before you decide whether to keep it or not. Just also realize that if you later decide to sell the stone, some people don't want fluorescence so it may be harder to sell.

I'll take a quick look and see if I see any that I think might be better cut.

I really don't see any that I like at 3 cts in higher colors. The 3.05 has a girdle that goes from very thin to slightly thick and that will look a bit wonky unless maybe you set it in a halo or bezel.

These stones are priced way higher than the ones you are looking at, but I am showing you them as examples of a fairly well cut cushion with a nice facet pattern.

Thank you so much for sending these over!
I made my carat size smaller and have been finding some great ones in the 2.5 region

OP do you want a "crushed ice" style? Or one like @diamondseeker2006 posted with more distinct facets? It's a personal preference.

It looks like you prefer the crushed ice style. I want to go back to your first Blue Nile selections in the morning and look at them again. They are going to be a good bit larger than the 2.5's and I am afraid you might be disappointed in the size. it's midnight here and I was just headed to bed and will try to look at the 3 ct ones again in the morning!

Thank you soo much for all your help, I will look forward to your reply. I also am on the East Coast so should head to bed as well. There were just not many to choose from in the 3ct range that would fit in the original posted price bracket.
Thank you again

The girdle going from very thin to slightly thick is a big concern, good catch! It will be in a pave solitaire setting!
