Welcome Melba!

These are all what is known as virtual stones, they actually often belong to the cutting houses and not to a particular vendor. This can make choosing problematic, unless you contact your vendor such as Whiteflash and take their advice as to which might be a good diamond for you. They would have to call the diamond in for you and you would need to check with them regarding any costs, but that way they can use their expertise to help you make a great choice. BN link doesn''t work, but as far as I am aware, they don''t have the diamonds in house. Fancy shapes need to be really judged by your own and expert eyes preferably when purchasing, so a vendor such as WF are invaluable to help you, as you can''t tell a good fancy shape by the numbers so much.

Melba,
Pears are hard to judge by the numbers. A magnified real picture of the stone and an ASET helps greatly in assessing the light performance of the stone. Blue Nile does not offer this service but vendors like Whiteflash do. However, the stones are from a virtual database list so they are with the cutter/broker. The diamond vendors will have to have the stone shipped to them in order to run their tests, and may charge the shipping onto your tab if you return the stone.

Thanks for your help everyone - I have never purchased a diamond online and have never purchased a fancy shape before - so all the help is greatly appreciated!

I worked with Bob at Whiteflash and purchased a pear a few days ago. Don''t stick to their website, Bob can get anything so call him. Personally I wouldn''t go after a VS, especially a VS1. He can find a SI1 for you that is eyeclean and you can stick to a F and move up a few points in carat size for the same price. The key is that it will be a little more work to get an eyeclean one and understand the clarity flaws that make it a SI1 and ensure there are no structural problems. More work results in more diamond for your cash.

95Viper,

Was this a certified stone?

Yes, check out all the details and scopes on a previous post last updated on 11/4 titled "2.61 pear need advice from the professionals".

It is at Mark Morrell now having the ring and band designed.
