Hello all out there, this is my first post.

Here we go.....looking to purchase my first pear, but a very meaningful purchase. I saw the diamond today and really liked the shape. Nice and round at the shoulders and great fire. However, there seemed to be a dark spot on one side, but there were no inclusions to the naked eye. Under the loupe there were very little inclusions. I will list the specs below, however, not sure of the price vs. specs. The price is $5200.00, any feedback provided will be appreciated.

Shape: Pear
Weight: 1.25 ct
Cert: GIA
Color: G
Clarity: SI1
10.49 x 6.47 x 3.10
Depth: 47.9%
Table: 52%
Cutlet: None
Polish: Good
Grd: Med-VTk, F

It appears to be quite shallow, although you can''t go by numbers so much with fancy shapes - can you recheck the depth please?

48% depth is very shallow. Do you think the dark spot is the inclusion or some sort of bow-tie? Many pear shapes are notorious for bow ties - some people love it that it''s a huge flash facet but others hate it.

I would imagine this PS having a four fold main pavilion structure..., in that case the "bow-tie" effect will be minimal and could be considered an awesome spready Diamond...

Picture could help...

Thanks for that DG, if we could get pics it would be excellent! I remember reading that bow ties can be minimal in shallower stones, so it would be interesting to see this one.

Unfortunately I can't post a photo at this time, as I don't have access to the diamond now. However, I saw another PS next to it with the following specs:

1.56 ct
Depth: 62.3%
Table: 62%

And your assesment is correct. Side by side the 1.25 ct, looked so much shallower than the 1.56 ct. However, the 1.25 ct had a better looking spread (if you understand what I'm saying. Also, I ran the numbers on the 1.25 ct through AGA Grading Tool and got a final grade of "4A." Is that a good grade, I don't know.

You can't go by numbers so much when evaluating fancy shapes, so I wouldn't worry too much and trust your eyes. Pears can vary tremendously, so if you can compare as many as possible in person to get a feel for what appeals to you. Check the diamonds you are interested in out in as many different lights as possible to make sure you like the stone in the lighting it will usually be worn in. Which one did you like best out of the shallower stone and the other?

You are welcome! Is there any way you could enlarge the pics? If not, email them to admin and they might be able to enlarge them a bit so we can get a closer look. From what I can see it is a similar shape to mine.
