Did a PS search and came up with these... These are all in my price range, but I am not crazy about IGI or EGL... as far as the table and depth, which do you think is best??

All Princess cuts...

2.03 G SI1 72% 78% IGI m-stk no gd gd no 7.30x7.11x5. $9339

2.01 G SI2 73% 75% EGL vt-tk no gd vg no 7.12*6.89*5.03
$9431

2.00 G SI2 62.4% 78% GIA m-tk no gd gd no 7.18x7.05x4.40
$9603

Looking for a 2 ct, G or even an H, in an SI2 or better... for less than $10K and with someone who
takes American Express...

Any ideas??

Thanks!

Hm...

My idea of a princes cut stone is somewhat different. It would have both depth and table between 65% and 70% and a relatively high crown at more than 10%. I would prefer "very good" symmetry... but this is not a serious issue, and insist on some test of light return (say Ideal Scope). If the stone departs lots from this mantra, it could only be a matter of design.

Out of the three you picked, #2 lookes better (since the % of table and depth are closer numbers).

It is said that princess cuts with large tables (such as #3) have less chances to have great light return. However, this is based on some rule of thumb, since no 'formula' has yet been devised to deduce light return from the dimensions of a princess cut. I would say that such a stone will loose fire and may have good white light return from the pavilion facets, but this has to be seen to be believed. So? Te safest bet is probably to go by the expert advice available (guidelines HERE) and it would forever be better to see those stones... of course.

Here are some examples of what I was talking about above: all these could get within the top three AGA cut classes, and.. as you can see, the 'discount' on EGL stones get them in line with GIA graded ones with one grade of color or clarity lower - so, they seem to be the same deal.

In addition to table and depth, I looked for girdle thickness (neither extra thin not extra thick preferred) and squareness as criteria. All these stones have LxW ratios of below 1.1. The three diagrams show what such LxW look like: to me, these are 'very square' (if one can say this in good English) and the actual object being much smaller also helps.

The last stone in the list is an exception to almost every rule: it is 1.11:1 LxW, slightly more expensive than you'd want, the table number is bigger than the depth... but, I still put it on the list. For once, the depth is on the lower side for a princess cut, so to get the table even smaller than that is quite unusual. The thing could look square enough if you are not extremely focused on this property, and the stone could be quite appealing and LARGE for it's weight and cut.

The overall winner on the list, in my opinion, could be the 2.07 with the first stone (the 2.09) a close contender. The H-VS2 seemed tempting (I would doubt an EGL VS could turn GIA SI2), but the very thick girdle is an issue and it could affect the look (light return) of the stone just as much as it (obviously) affect it's size.

It should be noted that each stone is listed y more than one seller, so, in this domain, the choice is entirely yours.

Hope this helps, of course.

I would recommend expanding your search to include 1.90-1.99 carats. You'll hardly be able to tell any difference but you'll get a little better quality and you won't have the 2.0 carat markup.

An SI2 with the EGL might be have several easily visible inclusions.

Your budget does not allow you to get a G-H SI2+ 2 carat princess cut diamond with a GIA or AGS cert . . . are you really willing to go with a less reputable cert that is accordingly discounted?

I would consider a couple of things . . .
maybe dropping color to I
maybe dropping size to 1.75-1.99

With an IGI or EGL cert, you might be getting a stone that another lab would have graded lower in color and clarity anyway.

Here's an 2.00 H SI1 D73 T67 for $10,500

There are a few g.i.a certed stones that will fit your budget of around $10,000.00+/-,
Look for these criterias: F-G si2, H-I si1. in the 2ct. range.
As far as the ones you have picked I like # 2 the most ,The table, depth, and overall measur. are the best out of all of them.
