Hi (also if anyone can recommend a similar stone for budget somewhere that would be great)

I have finally come really close to purchasing a stone online which has been a tedious educational process and when I have finally narrowed down to this stone, I am concerned with locations of feathers near the outer edge and it seems like there is a surface inclusion that can be covered by a prong... will these things affect strength? There is also a low HCA rating and after reading some other posts- should this concern me? Is the girdle too large of a range? What I am wondering is the value for the price- is the price fair, is the diamond beautiful? The location of the feathers in the report concern me for durability as well as the location of the clouds and crystals in the dead centre of the table eventhough it is graded a VS2 by AGS. The HCA is 0.4 as well, good? bad?.... Any expert help and opinions would be appreciated. I have attempted to include the report for you to see inclusions although this is my first post and I have never uploaded anything- it is beyond the PS limits for upload size therefore I think that I have included everything pertinent below as well. Based on my understanding, I pay for it and have only a week or two to return if it doesn't match the report, how does one get any additional light reports in such a short turnaround? Do I book someone to look at it in advance? If it is an AGS graded stone, is there a light image of this diamond available in the virtual diamond abyss? This idea of virtual diamonds in so confusing.

Me again. I figured out how to upload the diagram from the AGS report so that you can see the inclusions in the centre table and the feathers and surface inclusions on the outer edge. I can''t thank you enough for help. :)

Hi Milo and welcome!

What I would do is ask for an Idealscope image, the pavilion angle is slightly shallow so an IS image will show if there are any issues such as obstruction, ( visible darkening of the stone due to head shadow when the diamond is viewed closely). This can be the case with stones which score below 1 on the HCA.

As to whether the stone is beautiful, no way to tell but an IS image would give us more info on whether there is obstruction and or light leakage.

Feathers in VS2 shouldn't normally be an issue but it would be best to ask a trusted vendor or appraiser to check. What is the colour grade also?

The girdle is fine, no issues there, it falls within thin to slightly thick range.

What you could do is get an independant appraiser to check the diamond out for you during the return period, appraiser listing is here.

You said the clarity is VS2, I did not see the color grade?

Oops....just to clarify, it is a G color......... sorry.

That all looks in order, thank you. Can you get an Idealscope image from the seller please?

i don't know, but when i see the word "cavity" it always scare me,maybe just one of those "mind clean" kind of thinking.

Good point- now my mind is thinking about a hole in my diamond....god forbid! :) can anyone comment on the "cavity" noted on the grading report image above? I guess green color indicates "external blemishes". Will this external cavity blemish or even the feathers compromise the integrity of the diamond? I am having it set in this Mark Schneider setting- can it be hidden by a prong or would the inclusions be too small to see as a VS2? Is it safe, can it actually chip?

A cavity in VS will generally not be an issue but its always prudent to check, make sure the seller gives you a return period so you can get an appraiser to inspect the stone during this time. Same with feathers, in VS there isn't normally a problem but again an appraiser can check for you.

Hi Milo-check with the vendor, but VS2 is pretty much a safe bet for eyeclean. most good vendor''s SI1s are eyeclean as well. you should also check the return and upgrade policies if those are important to you.

CAVITY as defined by pricescope --

A type of inclusion consisting of a large or deep opening in the diamond is called a cavity.

I have a diamond with a very similar inclusion plot but it is an SI2

I doubt very much that those inclusions will be visible to your eye. You will need to ask the vendor to know ofr sure though.

I await the ideal scope image.

My diamond also has a cavity. They are not a problem in and of themselves. But if you are concerned about it, honestly, look for another contender. This is a lot of money and an important purchase. Find something that you feel good about.
