I take it the above you copied from the website and you aren''t trying to sell this diamond? EGL Israel is said by some well respected in the industry to be quite inaccurate with the grading. To judge the cut, the crown and pavillion angles are needed but as EGL uses percents, these aren''t as accurate as angles. Have you seen this rock?

No. I have not seen the diamond. The pavilion % is(I think) 44%. Now the number they gave me for the crown is 15. I dont know what that is % or what.

That would be the crown %. Unfortunately, the tool we often use to help weed out lesser performing diamonds, the Holloway Cut Advisor gave this diamond a fairly dismal score of over 5. I would pass on this diamond, the cut doesn't seem great and EGL Israel diamonds are thought by some in the industry to be loose on grading for colour and clarity, sometimes more than a grade or 2. What is your budget if you don't mind me asking, perhaps if you let us know what you are looking for and the funds, we can show you some contenders?

I would stick to GIA and AGS, often they are more stricly graded than EGL.

Koursie, he might be looking for a lot of extra size for the buck, hence the EGl lab report. Ideally he would stick to those, but it seemed to me he might be sticking to EGL to get size possibly. I am pondering this because this is what I did...

Here's the thing, why are you getting a G VS1?

Did your girlfriend say this is what she wanted?
Did you decide this is what your tolerance is?

The reason is EGL tends to be lax on its color grading, so you may end up with an independent appraisal that would rate this diamond a step or two below what you bought for it.

There's a reason EGLs are cheaper.

On top of that, it looks like it's not a good diamond overall in terms of having brilliance, sparkle, and flashes. I was saying this in another thread...almost all diamonds, even poorly cut ones, will sparkle kind of. But you should SEE these ideal cut ones that people on the this forum buy. It's a whole another world.

If size is most important to her, and she said she wanted "G VS1" Then I guess ignore us and buy the diamond. (Because, getting a really high quality G VS1 in your budget will get you a 1.26 or so).

If size is most important to her, and she said nothing about the color or clarity grades. I would seriously reconsider G VS1. If it's a WELL CUT diamond (which this is not with a score of 5 on the HCA) it will be spready, it will hide color, it's an amazing thing. It will sparkle and flash from feet away. Also, if you geta GIA or AGS excellent/ideal cut stone instead, you could drop the color and it would probably look the same as your EGL stone.

It's not that there aren't great EGL stones out there, it just requires a LOT of footwork and knowledge to find a good one. As someone said on another post, if you are getting a diamond on a deal compared to the prices around here. There is a reason.

Well, I am guy and in my opinion, if you want to do this right and this is your first diamond purchase.

Buy from a trusted Pricescope Vendor.
Buy only AGS or GIA certified stones.
Use the Holloway Cut Advisor to eliminate possible bad stones.
Buy from a vendor that has a lifetime upgrade policy.
Make sure the vendor has a great return and refund policy.
Understand that CUT is KING in the diamond.
Read and Read some more here on Pricescope about diamonds. Ask questions
Find the diamonds that you would consider and post the "specs", pictures and certificates and the people here at pricescope will tell you what they think.

This is the best place to buy a diamond that I have ever seen.

Good Luck

this is a great budget, I''d still stick with AGS/GIA. YOu can save a little money with EGL, but EGL can also be a little off in color/clarity.
