Hello All

I am not new to diamonds but I am new to more specific stats relating to depth, table etc. I was wondering if anyone would mind giving me their 2 cents worth on this specific diamond:

Weight 2.19 CT
Shape ROUND BRILLIANT
Color J
Clarity SI1
Measurements 8.44 x 8.35 x 5.08 mm
Depth 60.5%
Table 58%
Crown 13.9%
Pavilion 43.1%
Crown Angle 33.9°
Pavilion Angle 40.9°
Girdle THIN TO MEDIUM FACETED
Polish VERY GOOD
Symmetry VERY GOOD
Fluorescence NONE
Culet NONE
Cut Grade IDEAL PLUS

I dont have massive expectations and am not that sensitive to color or clarity as long as it faces up well with no huge black spots. This is a second hand purchase so the asking price is well under $10,000 and possibly even under $5,000 - I still havent negotiated an appropriate price but I was hoping someone could help me out with the stats? This has not been clarity enhanced.

Thankyou so much for any assistance!

i forgot to mention it is EGLUSA certified - I know they arent as good as GIA etc but as far as bang for buck I think I have found what I have been looking for...

The numbers are very good. The only concern with EGL is that they can be lenient on color & clarity grading, though EGL USA is usually more strict and closer to GIA/AGS than the other EGL labs.

Are you going to be able to examine the stone in person before buying?

Thankyou so much for your reply!

No I wont be able to view the diamond beforehand as Im in Australia but I am able to send it back if Im not happy with it.

What do you think price wise? This is my first rock over 2 carats and Im not too sure on pricing

Be prepared for a GIA K SI2 equivalent - or lower. I would definitely establish a return policy, in writing, before sending my money over.

Im expecting that - just as long as I dont pay too much

Is less than $5k a bargain for this diamond?

At 5k I will be seriously doubting it, sound too good of a deal. In the diamond trade, you usually get what you pay for. Definitely get it check out with an independent appraiser.

My only worry is that it could very well really be a K or even lower. But if that doesn''t bother you and you like the stone in person, then great! It could be a good buy.

Thankyou all for your opinions - i really appreciate it.

I am expecting it to be K or worse but as long as it faces clean, nicely cut im not so worried. I just want a big rock lol!! I''ve got a 1.31ct K VVS2 which I assume is a reasonable cut (but thats an uneducated guess!) and it sparkles like sun and the warmth in certain lights doesnt bother me as much as it might others, it even faces up white which is something I wasnt expecting when I first got a K coloured diamond,

I love all diamonds as long as they are sparkly and reasonably clean! I have a bunch of diamonds over 1ct but its time to move into the 2ct range because 1ct just isnt cutting it for me as much as it used to... definitely have that diamond bug that so many of us on here seem to have lol

I think I may go ahead and negotiate a price... It is from a divorce I assume so I may just get lucky - i love secondhand bling lol

An independant appraisal is a must in my opinion, make sure you get a good return policy to give you time to get an appraisal done. As you are in Australia, make sure any return period allows for transit times.

OIC, so it is a private sale, then price is about right or slightly higher depending on how close the color/clarity grade is, but definitely get an independent appraiser to verify everything is as it is.
