Help on a Ring -- Input is MUCH appreciated!

I'm still building my knowledge and eye for gemstones while trying to reduce the number of "learner gems/jewelry" I end up buying and realizing weren't the best purchases later on. With that, I'd love this group's opinion. I found a ring and I like the setting in particular -- it's listed at $1990 for the ring or $1690 without the ruby. The ruby is very clean and is .50 ct with about .70 tcw in diamonds (G, VVS). It seems like a lot to me but the 14k setting is intricate so I respect the amount of work on it. Thoughts please?

...so $300 for the ruby?? Pretty small investment. The fact that the ring comes "ruby-optional" means that it is a low-value stone. Probably very heavily treated and flux-filled -- which many here have no objection to (!) but many others would not go near.

So this is really a ring purchase and not a gemstone purchase, imo.

@LilAlex - I agree and I’m not sure I’m huge in rubies anyway so yes, I’d probably be purchasing for the setting which I haven’t done before. Seems like it’s probably not quite worth it as I think about it more and more. I think my problem is that I’m hooked on a moonstone ring I saw on Etsy (yes, I know — completely different and I wouldn’t blame you for thinking I’m crazy). I think I need to “practice being more patient“ as I tell my son Thanks for confirming what I was thinking — it’s really nice to have people to bounce ideas off of.
