Hi there,

Apart from the fact that I am a newbie in this forum, I am also currently searching for a ''perfect'' proposal ring.

I am looking for a 1ct diamond ring but I have only $5000 to spare after factoring in the Georg Jensen wedding bands.

The search had been difficult considering that I am a mature law student studying overseas in UK with limited budget and absolutely zero knowledge of diamonds.

Recently, I chanced upon a Leo ring from Ernest Jones. The price is a tad too steep and I am wondering if I can keep something similar (if not, better) for the above-mentioned price?

I am not inclined to online buying (especially diamonds!) apart from eBay unless there is a specialised site that''s been tried, tested and verified by industry professionals (like some of you guys).

I would really appreciate it if you guys can help me out here.

Thank you.

Hi Joe!

Welcome to Pricescope. My fiance purchased our diamond online from www.whiteflash.com and they couldn't have been better. Search for "Whiteflash" on these boards and you'll see comment after comment about their amazing service.

That being said...how about something like this?

1.04 ct H SI2
(if eye-clean), $4529.00 with PS discount

Platinum Sleek Lines Solitaire

total= $5078.00

Just something to start you off with. If you have any other questions, please, feel free to ask!

Ebay... is Ok for stuff you know how to price. If you are not comfortable telling which diamond is worth what, I wouldn''t think about it much.

Otherwise, it is a matter of track record with any seller. Some make use of this forum to establish one online. If you are looking for this, it is a good place. Sure enough, Ebay sellers also have their track record - but among that many shops, professionals never get to look into what their peers are doing. In a smaller circle like this, one''s reputation is everyone''s reputation. If you look up threads with complaints against one or another seller posting here, this becomes quite obvious.

My 2c.

Hi there!

I live in the UK but would not buy a diamond over here. It''s far too expensive. My Leo diamond came from Jared in Ohio, and i paid a fraction of the price, even including the import duty i had to pay.

Wait until you go back to the States to make your purchase. If I was making another purchase, i would have no hesitation using one of the online vendors. The favourites seem to be Whiteflash and Good Old Gold. There are so many folk on this site that have very positive experiences with these vendors.

Good luck...and hang on to your hard earnt cash until you find the perfect diamond!

best wishes Blod (England,UK)

I definitely agree with Blod on UK prices and the quality of diamonds you''ll be shown..... However, watch out for tax and customs excise duty if you order from the states as that can be a shock!!

Abang,
Honestly I was just like you. I would go to these sites and see how great the prices are and wish I felt secure enough to purchase online. I ended up getting a diamond from www.jamesallen.com and honestly I feel like a fool for even doubting. I do not think Jim would sell anyone anything that wasn''t a good stone......I am ECSTATIC with my purchase and LOVE the stone. I get compliments all the time!!

What style stone/ring are you looking for? Does she like round or fancy shapes?

My husband and I definitely had reservations about buying on-line, but with so many recommendations about GOG and Whiteflash, we contacted both. I''m happy to say I got a fantastic expert selection diamond from Whiteflash and couldn''t be happier. They really are a top class vendor and very honest and helpful. I''d happily deal with them again, which we will be doing in 2006... and we''re in Saudi Arabia!
