A friend asked me for help in finding his girlfriend an emerald cut engagement ring. I would very much appreciate any help because I know very little about ec stones. I have done some research and understand that it is better to go with higher color and clarity on ecs.

Info I have so far is ideally a setting with side stones, vintage inspired, size 5 finger, 18k white gold, around a carat for center stone and $5 to $6K budget. I am afraid with this budget a three stone might not be feasible.

Any suggestions for stones or vendors? Thanks in advance.

budget is going to be tight on a single stone.
Mark at ERD or GOG are your best bet for dealers.

That''s what I suspected. I will steer him towards ERD and GOG. Thanks storm.

Maybe tight, but should be possible. See the attached picture. The side stones are .54tct, HVS2.

Obviously GOG will give you some really great service and can help in selecting the right stone. I just wanted to show that if you are willing to explore options and possibly make some compromises, you should be able to get pretty close to what you want within that budget.

I once owned an emerald cut diamond that was an F color, VS2 clarity. It was no problem, the VS2 inclusions didn''t show without a loupe. And the color worked well. Just wanted to put in my 2 cents. I bought it from BlueNile, but traded it in later for something larger. But it really was a beautiful diamond.

Wow thanks kc, I really like that setting. Where did it come from?

Sarah at GOG sent me this GIA report on an ec. I asked for a Sarin report but the equipment is out for repair. I was hoping for opinions on the numbers thus far. Assuming the crown % is over 10, I thought this looked like a promising stone. Since I am new to Ecs, am I missing anything obvious. Thanks so much.

1.02 G VS1
6.77 x 5.07 x 3.20
Depth 63.1%
GIA Attached

We''ll just have to sit tight until the sarin is ready. Also, ask for an ASET of the diamond.

It is on Adiamor.com

I didn't list the source because I don't want it to look like I'm shilling for them. I've bought from them and I found the entire experience quite pleasant. As a drop shipper, they obviously can't give the type of selection assistance that a GOG or WF gives. But for some, they might be a really god option.

Thanks for all the help on the EC search. My friend, however, has just discovered that what she really wants is an asscher! Off to read some of Storm''s advice and restart the search. I am really beginning to appreciate the fancy cuts.
