Hello, I am going to look at a g si2 1 carat stone tommorow. I noticed that the gia cert (under the picture of the inclusions at the bottom), where it says "key to symbols" the words "feather" and "crystal" are written.

What are crystal and feathers are they good or bad?

Theyre just two types of inclusions possible in the diamond. The amount of inclusions determines the clarity grading. SI2s are tricky because sometimes you cant see anything with your eye and sometimes you can, usually from the side. You can think of a crystal as a second diamond! Haha, that doesn't make me feel any better either, especially if I can see it! Chances are youre looking at rounds and the sparkle will help to mask the inclusions so you won't see them. A feather looks like its described, I'm not sure how it forms though. Some pro's will come along and help you more I'm sure!

Let us know how it turns out!

feathers are lines/voids inside the stone that look will like wispy feathers.

crystals are formed when another crystal gets trapped inside the diamond and the diamond grows around it.

Watch out for feathers that break the surface.

thanks gang, great start, any experts have any advise?
