Hi PS'ers! I starting a power walking exercise routine now, so I purchased a pair of Asics Gel-nimbus 21 shoes after reading reviews online. Well, halfway through my walk, my feet and arches were in so much pain that I had to have my DH get the car to take me home as I could not walk another step! My arches are still sore this morning! We have hardwood floors, and I need to wear cushioned slippers, otherwise I have a tendency to get plantar faciitis. I am asking for recommendations for walking shoes that have great cushioning, especially through the arch area that will get me through daily, long, brisk walks. Thank you!

Well....I'm not 100% sure about walking, but I LOVE my Danskos. I'm a teacher and am on my feet a lot (or rather I was before COVID) and these are amazing. I don't have the ones that are super cushioned but they are still amazing.

Asics are perfect for my feet.

Hoka One One bondi 6 or I think the latest is 7. You can wear them right out the box. Or you can try the Hoka one one gravitola (something like that).

I wear bondi, DH wears gravitola. He he has flat feet so that is why he doesn’t wear bondi.

Edit, they also have “recovery slides” which l love and wear around the house as my slippers.

I have Dansko sneakers and I love them. They’re not cushiony but incredibly supportive. I can tell when I don’t wear them (or my regular Danskos) enough as my feet and legs start to bother me.

If cushioning is the most important, Hoka One One has that in spades. I have a pair and like them for short jaunts but I almost feel like I’m wearing heals because of the height of them!

I really like Brooks Ghost for running and walking. Vionic tide II flip flops for general wear. Oofos were recommended to me, but I didn’t care for them.

I am dealing with plantar fasciitis right now and recently bought Dansko tennis shoes/hikers and a new pair of oiled clogs. My feet feel much better in them than my ASICS. I have been a long time ASICS wearer but they really aggravate the PF. My foot is not completely healed but I can comfortably walk. I still can’t go out for my three mile walk but I am getting closer to getting back to that.

I purchased the Paisley waterproof sneaker by Dansko

I run in Hoka One One Cliftons, but for walking I have always worn Merrell. Very sturdy & super supportive of my arches, which is where I also get pain if not properly cushioned due to all the miles my poor feet pound.

I'd go see a podiatrist and get orthotics made
ive had a lot of trouble over the years from working on concrete floors so its really unfortunate for you the hardwood floors still cause you grief because since we moved onto hardwood floors and no concrete my problems disapaired
Don't forget to take an assortment of shoes into the podiatrist
its likelly some of your none exercise shoes are contributing to the problem

i walk everywhere

Skechers Go Walk, maybe? I have arthritic feet that need space and cushioning and I can certainly do an hour‘s brisk walking in them.

Thank you for this advice!

I saw the Skechers Go Walk and I have arthritic feet too. Since you are happy with them, then I am going to give them a try! Thank you!

Thank you for this! My daughter is a nurse and now she is interested in Danskos!

I am so glad that you and @eapj mentioned the Hoka One One shoes! I saw those and I was hoping that I could get opinion on those shoes as I really need cushioning! Thank you both so much!

Thank you, @eapj! Another plus for Dansko's for my daughter who needs them too!

Thank you for this suggestion; they really look comfortable!

Thank you @luv2sparkle! Plantar faciitis is the worst! I am praying I am not getting it again from walking in the Asics yesterday!

Thank you for this information!

Thank you everyone for your valuable reviews and information! This is very helpful in making a decision as to which shoes to try as I can't keep buying shoes only to give them away to Goodwill when they don't work! =)2

My cliftons squeak and it drives me crazy! Lol

I wear Sketchers Go Walk for daily dog walks, but for long hikes, I wear Asics trail runners:

An orthopedic surgeon told me to get the Hoka Bondi (extremely cushiony) and put Dr. Scholl’s Heel Pain inserts into them. I also wear Thorlo tennis socks (extra cushioned socks). These three items are life-altering for my foot pain. I have prematurely thinning fat pads on my feet (yup, it’s a thing) as well as a problem joint on the bottom of one of my big toes.

Zappos routinely sends e-mail coupons for $40 off a purchase of $100 or more, so that can save you a lot of $ on the Hokas. Though they are totally worth full price. Good luck!

Oh no.... No, I can't stand squeaks. I have been known to sell a car once because the garage couldn't identify where it was coming from & fix it, despite repeated attempts

Thank you for this information! I just purchased a pair of Hoka Bondi and also the Thorlo tennis socks. I can't wait to get back to a "normal" life of walking pain free!

Many thanks, everyone for your time in helping me!!

I know Covid makes this difficult, but if you can, it is well worth a visit to a local running specialty store to be fitted. They can look at your feet and tell you if you are a pronator or a supinator as you move, and what kind of support you need. They can also help guide you toward brands that will feel good and most have a treadmill in store for you to try the shoes.

Zappos has free and very easy returns.
