Hi All,

First time poster so please be nice.

I am looking at purchasing a diamond for an engagement ring and i found one that i think would be fantastic but I'm not have alot of knowledge so i would love some advice if its a good diamond.

I have asked James Allen to put it on hold for me while i consult their geologist and i have requested and ideals cope image of it.
it gets an HCA Score of 1.5(or maybe it was 1.4) and a 1B in the AGA Cut Class

I am going this diamond in a split shank double halo.

My biggest concern is the clarity and if the inclusions impact the sparkly of the diamond. Iv tried to research as much as possible but I'm still way off from what other people would know.

Also i just need some assistance to tell my if this diamonds cut is good and if this diamond is worth buying?

On the GIA certificate it says that the diamond has a 'Cloud' and 'Feather'. Does the diamond look a tad milky(i guess cloudy) to anyone else? would the cloud or feather in this diamond affect the sparkly?

I would love someone to help me out. Im a newbie to diamonds so would love to hear from someone with a bit of experience.

First you want to stick to stones that have a crown angle of 34 and over (33.5 okay for 60/60 style stones), a pavilion angle of 41 and under, and no deeper than 62.5.
Start with a GIA Ex, and then apply the HCA to it. Then check actual light performance of your actual stone by getting an idealscope image.

ps. Above guide was given by Gypsy (one of the experts here)

(I was going back and forth between cushion and round)

Thanks for the reply. The geologist will be having a look at the diamond but they said that they wont be able to provide me an idealscope image because the diamond isnt at there New York office :(

From what you said, it seems this diamond is within the specs that you gave me. I can it through HCA and this is what is spits out:

Light Return: Excellent
Fire: Excellent
Scintillation: Very Good
Spreador diameter for weight: Very Good
Total Visual Performance: 1.4 - Excellent within TIC range

Should i be worried about the scintillation and spread being 'Very Good' instead of excellent?

This is what i get when i run it through the AGA/NAJA CUT CLASS DIAMOND GRADING SCREENING TOOL:

Tab Percent: 1A
Crown Angle: 1A
Crown Height: 1A
Pavilion Depth: 1B
Girdle: 1B
Depth: 1A
Polish: 1A
Symmetry: 1A
TotalGrade: 1B

Can anyone assist me if this diamond is a top quality diamond or not from the above information I provided?

Its really hard to tell if its hazy in that video. Ask them to check for haziness due to clouds, it is not uncommon in SI1 and from the video, it looks like a possibility.

Yeah thats what i was thinking also. I couldn't quite tell if it was hazy or not, alot of other diamonds in the same category did look alot like that but the price of this diamond did seem alot cheaper than the others with the same specs. I dont know if its cheaper because of the haziness. Waiting to hear back from the geologist....

Does haziness impact the sparkly of the diamond?

I would assume so yes . . . I have read that bz of clouds can reduce the light return or "sparkly" could be diminished bz of the way light is dispersed. I think I read abt it on the white flash webpage.

http://www.whiteflash.com/about-diamonds/diamond-education/diamond-cloud-inclusions-impact-on-diamond-sparkle-1372.htm

I think w/ -generally- a diamond that is VS2 or higher you have less of a chance of clouds affecting light return but with a SI1 one must be cautious especially if the report states "clarity based (or partially based) on clouds not shown".
Again I am not an expert so if I am giving erroneous info please chime in . . . I'm in the learning phase of this.
