Help needed on buying Shallow 1.09 Ct Round Cut Diamond

My friend is trying to sell me this 1.09 Ct round diamond below.

This diamomd looks great and when I took it to Jared, they said it has a lot of fire and clean to the eye. They checked the florescence under a dark light and verified the general specifications but did not comment on the diamond being Shallow.

1) Is this diamond bad for any reason?
2) Is it susceptible to damage or chipping because of the shallow depth, steep crown and pavillion angles?
3) He wants $2700 firm for the diamond and Is that fair price?

I keep staring at it and tried it on different settings and it looks great. I'm worried, so please let let know if this diamond is worth it.

Wow. That is a pretty poor cut. It might be passable for a pendant, but not for a ring. And EGL I SI2 is probably equal to a K or L I1 GIA stone. I think $2700 is too much, and I wouldn't consider it for a ring.

I could not get any Diamond cut tools to work, tried the DiamCalc demo and the HCA but the results were not conclusive.

I am in the process of getting it appraised by an independent GIA appraiseser.If anyone has any better tools or suggestions. Please keep them coming. I will keep you posted.

I think the HCA results are pretty conclusive...do not buy!

anyway, I wouldn't waste time and $$ on this stone with an independent appraiser.

I don't mind that it's shallow: you've seen it, it didn't turn you off, that's fine. What concerns me: THICK TO VERY THICK GIRDLE! If you're buying a shallow stone to save weight, I'd really be concerned about this. Though it should certainly alleviate your concerns about chipping. I would just spend the time looking at comparable shallow diamonds without the super thick girdle to make sure the shallow stone + thick girdle makes sense for you (for example, inquire about this? http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond.php?d=19213&shape=1&ctMin=1.05&priceMax=4000&resultsColumns=268435471&singleResult=1).

My other concern: EGL SI2. Maybe the inclusions are acceptable, but I would spend a solid 15 minutes really, really looking for them with your naked eye. What you notice after 15 minutes are things you'll be able to identify easily after a couple months. Again, it depends on your tolerance for all of these things: shallow cut, inclusions, color. Only you have the answer to that.

Please post the GIA results here. Personally, doing business with friends is sticky- and an EGL I SI2 is more likely an K-L I1 or I2. Buy a stone because it is exactly what you are looking for- not because you think you are getting a deal... It's only a deal if it's exactly whatbyou are looking for- otherwise you end up with something you didn't necessarily want to begin with...
