HELP needed for melee size, please post photos of halo rings

Hi Everyone,

I am currently struggling with what size diamonds I want to use in my halo and shank on my ring. My centre diamonds is a 0.90 cushion cut. I have been leaning towards using 1.5 point diamonds, as although I want a delicate halo, I also want it to be big enough to increase the finger coverage of the ring. However I am torn between that choice and using 1 point diamonds instead. I haven't actually been able to compare photographs or rings in person, to see the visual difference between the two options so would really appreciate it if people could post photos of their halo rings and let me know the size of the stones in them to help me make my choice!

Hi Caity. My avatar shows my diamond with 1.5 pt. melee used in the halo. My stone is an OEC that throws off large, bold, colorful flashes of light and I wanted sizable melee that would work with those bold flashes. I tried smaller 1.0 pt. melee with my OEC, but they just got lost and didn't add what I was looking for.

Thank you so much for your reply! I've just had a look at your ring and it is absolutely beautiful! Your diamond is stunning and the melee size looks perfect! Could you please tell me what size your centre diamond is so it will give me an idea of how big 1.5 point stones will look against my diamond?

Thank you for your compliments! My OEC diamond is 1.64 cts. I look forward to seeing what you decide as I am sure it will turn out beautifully!

If you want a delicate halo you are WAY off base.

A 1.5 POINT diamond is HUGE for a halo.

Unless you meant 1.5 MM instead?

I recommend 1/2, 3/4 or 1 pointers. NOTHING over a point. And honestly under a point is best with that size center.

Are you sure it's 1.5 point? And not 1.5mm? I'm pretty sure your diamonds in your halo are not 1.5 points. They are 1.5mm. VERY different things.

Are you sure it's 1.5 point? And not 1.5mm? I'm pretty sure your diamonds in your halo are not 1.5 points. They are 1.5mm. VERY different things.

Hi Gypsy. I just checked the work order that I saved, and it says 0.015 cts. each melee. And when I look at a conversion table, for this particular instance only, it says 1.5 mm = 0.015 cts = 1.5 pts.

Aaaahhh, Kathley's halo- just perfection. I think the melee just works with the chunky OEC. So, to help, OP, I looked up Kathley stats- based on what I can find, Kathley's OEC is 7.4mm. So, I don't know your diamonds diameter to set up the proper ratio, but, I think you'd be choosing the 1mm/1pointers or maybe 1.2mm for a similar effect?

Thank you, apacherose for your compliment! Caity, you might want to go and look at some Tacori halo rings if you can. They have halos with 0.5 pts all the way up to the full bloom larger halos. I just saw this Tacori with what I think are 1/2 pts. in the halo:

Thanks apacherose, I think I agree with you, that with my size diamond, 1 pointers would probably be best! Thanks for your help Kathley I will have a look at those now! Also from what I can see 1.5 point diamonds are 1.5mm!
