So I searched and read a lot of threads, and I know you have to see the stone, etc. I am going tonight to pick out a setting for a stone I put a 100% refundable deposit on, and pay for it. So, is there anything that would be a red flag about the following diamond:

Cushion Modified Brilliant
Measurements: 6.23 x 5.84 x 3.88 mm

Carat Weight: 1.05 carat
Color Grade: G
Clarity Grade: VS2

Proportions:
Depth: 66.4%
Table: 68%
Girdle: Medium to Very Thick, Faceted
Culet: None

Finish:
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Fluorescence: None
Comments: Additional clouds are not shown.

I have looked at the stone in person, and I think it looks great. Not sure what they mean by "additional clouds are not show" on the cert. I had a very hard time even finding the two small clouds that they show on the cert let alond any other clouds. I want a stone that will appear rather square, and I know this one is on the bubble for that, but I feel like the rest of measurements are good. The cost is $6,600 from a local jeweler.

Thanks!

Also, does anyone have any suggestions for places to go and look to compare? I live in Denver, and can only really think of Shane, Jared, and Tiffany's.

This stone is from Shane, which after all the reading, scares me!

I'm no expert but that seems a bit high for a ~1ct cushion modified. The Pricescope diamond prices chart for cushion cut stones lists an average price of $4527/ct for a G/VS2 stone of the size you specified (https://www.pricescope.com/diamond-prices/cushion). The price you were quoted is almost 39% more than this average. Have you considered a good online vendor like EngagementRingsDirect (ERD) or James Allen?

I think people will tell you that if you love the stone then go for it. However, if it's not calling your name, you're not in a super rush, and you don't have a lot of stones to look at for comparison perhaps you'd be well served by taking a step back and checking out a few more options. There are those on here more qualified than I to tell you about table and depth percentage and such and to point you to those excellent GoodOldGold videos on cushion cut stones.

Unless you have some aversion to shopping online I would recommend at least giving a call to of the vendors they talk about all the time on here. Tell them what you're looking for and see what they come up with. I suspect you'll get more rock for your money.

Its hard to say from just the numbers. the price does seem high if your open to buying online here are some other options:)

JA will look at up to three diamonds for you and tell you which one preforms the best. I would also request asset images if you are interested. Make sure you get the pricescope discount:)
