Hey everyone, I decided to upgrade my fiancé's .75 carat engagement ring. I've narrowed it down to three Whiteflash ACA diamonds.
The diamond will be set in a Vatche U113. My fiancé wears a size 6. She likes dainty rings. A bigger diamond isn't always better in our case, I am trying to pick out the nicest diamond for that setting.

All three are very similar in price and diamond specs.

Personally, I am leaning towards the 1.057 F VS1. It's the most expensive, but I like the diamond specs. Also, I asked about the white spots on the Idealscope and ASET on this diamond. I was told from Whiteflash that it was caused from glare and that it isn't light leakage.

Am I making the right decision on the 1.057? Maybe I should save some cash and get the smaller, or spend the same and get the larger?
I'll be placing the order in the next couple days, I appreciate your help!

They are all beautiful stones. My best advice is to buy the one that appeals the most to you.

As a caveat though, I will say that diamond shrinkage syndrome sets in before you know it. Maybe getting the 1.15 will stave that off for a long time! It's not so big as to be 'in your face' but since she likes smaller jewelry, she may feel that she got a much bigger stone than she had hoped for. At any rate, they can all be returned and/or upgraded. Of course, you need to be sure of the stone before you have it set in the Vatche setting.

Thanks for your help.
I've read that Vatche designs the ring around the diamonds proportions. So, do you think the band will be much bigger with the 1.157ct diamond in comparison to the 1.057? I don't think my fiancé would mind the larger diamond, but I definitely know that she would prefer a daintier/thinner band.

I don't think it would be much bigger if any at all. You could always tell them that you prefer the band to stay on the dainty side. I would also go for the largest stone. DSS is very real

From looking at the specs and the images of all three diamonds, is there one particular diamond which looks the best or should have the best light performance?

Ive checked the HCA:
1.01ct = 1.2 excellent TIC
1.057 = 1.1 excellent TIC
1.157 = 1.4 excellent TIC

The size difference between the three of them isn't too significant, so I'd rather choose the nicer stone.

No, all three diamonds look terrific! You do NOT use the HCA on AGS Ideal cut diamonds. The HCA just helps you identify diamonds that might fall into the ideal cut range. But WF ACA's are graded ideal cut and are true hearts and arrows stones as evidenced by the images they provide.

The easy answer to this is the 1.15 ct stone. It is 6.7mm in contrast to the 1.0 at 6.4mm. I would not bother upgrading to less than the 1.15.

Oh, and the shank will be the same size between a 1.0 and 1.15. My shank on the U-113 is no more than 2mm and my diamond is over 2 cts. So I can't imagine it being much thinner, anyway.

Well after giving this decision making process some thought, I decided that it was best to include my fiancé.
I wanted to surprise her with a ring for Christmas, but I really wanted her opinion because this is an expensive purchase for us.

She doesn't have a clue when it comes to diamonds or the 4 C's. When I showed her the picture of the diamonds, she was really excited and chose the largest one, go figure.

Lucky for her, I ended up really liking diamonds during all the research I have done. I'm sure the three that I chose would look identical as far as light performance goes under everyday conditions, so it's probably best that she picked the largest one. I really hope it fits her perfectly.

Thanks for your help,
Aaron

Excellent choice! And you are a sweetheart for upgrading her diamond before the wedding! :appl:

It looks like a real beauty.

I'm glad you included your fiance to make the final choice. I'm sure she will still get a lovely surprise from the new upgraded diamond and setting change.

Excellent choice in stone and in including her in the decision. I kind of thought she'd like the larger one!

I'm really glad that I told her about the upgrade. This is much more fun now, and I don't have to be stressed about hoping that I pick the right size. Her and I really never went shopping together for a ring, so we never got the chance to see what different sized diamonds looked like on her.

Tonight we are going to Tiffany Co so she can wear a 1 carat and a 1.25 carat. I don't believe they had a 1.15 carat last week when I was there. But seeing those two sizes in person should help us decide which diamond to purchase. More than likely, it will be the larger stone.

Diamondseeker- thanks for clarifying the thickness of the Vatche U113. I had a tough time finding that information when searching the forums. I was concerned that the band would be too thick. Her wedding band is approximately 2.25mm wide, so it should look perfect.

Update-

We went to Tiffany's and tried on a 1.06ct, 1.17 ct, and 1.21ct ring. The band on the Tiffany matched her wedding band perfect so thats no longer a concern.

The 1.21 looked way to big on her. The 1.17 looked big and definitely wouldn't want it any larger because is was plenty large in diameter and it stood tall. She doesn't want anything to stand taller than that.

The 1.06 looked very nice on her too. Definitely didn't look too tall and was nice in diameter.

I wanted her to choose which of the two she liked best between the 1.057 and the 1.157, but she cann't make up her mind. She is starting to lean towards the 1.057.

I wish we could see the two diamonds we chose in the Vatche setting. Is there one diamond which would compliment the Vatche U113 setting better than the other due to the dimensions of the diamond? I imagine the prongs will be longer on the 1.157?

When you went to Tiffany’s, did you get the diameters of the diamonds you viewed? For a 1.2ct diamond, the diameter can vary probably .2mm depending on the depth and cut of the diamond, which happens to be the difference between the 1.05 and the 1.15 diamonds you are looking at.

I personally would get the 1.15, because it is larger thus a better value than the 1.05 (IMHO). My guess is your fiance will get used to the size very quickly once it is on her hand! That tends to happen with women! :D

It sounds like your fiance is more concerned about the height of the setting. I would talk to Whiteflash about seeing how low they can set the diamond in the Vatche setting. To me, higher-set diamonds can sometimes trick your eye into thinking the diamond is bigger and vice versa.

I tried on rings at Tiffany, too! That helps a lot! Please go with the 1.15! Over time she will be SO glad she did! Others won't know the difference, but when she is 40 or 50 she will be glad she went with the larger stone! Lots of women are on this forum who came here to look for upgrade diamonds for an anniversary, including me. Trust me, she will grow right in to the 1.15. In fact, my daughter's ring is that size. Maybe I can post a couple of pics. There truly isn't enough difference to even consider buying the smaller stone, in my opinion.

Her diamond is 1.15 cts (also from WhiteFlash)and the wedding band is 2.5mm. Her e-ring is the Vatche Caroline. Sorry I don't have a better picture.

Just FYI, her diamond is H color and appears very white because of the cut. You could easily go to G color in a superideal cut if the price is an issue.

Thanks again for helping me.

Diamondseeker- Your daughter's ring looks great on her. Very nice indeed. Thank you for posting the picture.

My fiance said that she understood why I mentioned the upgrade to her, but she would have rathered me to have surprised her with the ring. She said it's too hard for her to agree to upgrade the diamond knowing how much it costs. She said she feels selfish accepting it. So, it looks like I will have to surprise her once again.

I'm also thinking that maybe we just aren't fans of the Tiffany setting? I like the prongs on the James Allen replica she currently has because the prongs are straighter. I think I will take a look at Brian Gavin's Tiffany replica because I think the prongs are straight as well?

Update:

We ended up pulling the trigger on the 1.157 F VS2 and the Vatche U113. We are very excited to say the least. Can't wait to see what this will look like in person. I will definitely post some pictures when it arrives.

Update with pics:

My fiance received her ring yesterday. We are both blown away, it's absolutely stunning. It's noticeably bigger than the 3/4 carat, but doesn't look too large. It sparkles like crazy and really looks good on her.

I purchased a matching band as well.

Very glad we decided to upgrade her ring, the Vatche U113 is a very attractive setting.

Merry Christmas!

Also, must say that the staff at Whiteflash, specifically Becca, was extremely helpul and patient with me. She was very pleasant to work with and answered all of my questions. I will remain a loyal customer.

It's beautiful!

It looks beautiful on her! Congrats on making such a great choice!

I love what you picked! Beautiful, classic ring & it looks perfect on her. Congratulations!

the perfect choice for her ..it looks amazing on her finger! I love the bands with it as well.. congrats on your engagement!!!!

Everything looks terrific. Very pretty diamond.

The ring looks beautiful - so pleased you're both happy with it.

Beautiful ring! I worked with Becca at Whiteflash on a ring this week, and she was so wonderful and helpful. I'm also now a loyal customer!

I was going to say the only thing significantly different in the stones are the size, so it depends on what she would want size-wise.
I'm glad she got to have input on it, and I'm sure it is a real performer! Enjoy and congratulations!

Thanks for your compliments. My fiance can't keep her eye off it. It definitely sparkles way more than the 3/4 ct, but I think a lot of it has to do with the better setting. The prong are much nicer and allow more of the diamond to show from every angle.

If you are on the fence on whether or not you should purchase a Vatche U113, then go for it. You will be happy!

It is beautiful and the Vatche U-113 was a very good choice.
It looks lovely on her hand.
Congrats to both of you. :appl:
