Hi everyone!

Hope you are able to help me with whatever comments you have. I have to make a purchase decision by tomorrow. The diamond''s data is attached. This is a GIA certed stone with the following information:

E VS2, 2.02 carat
Price is $21,000.

Looking at the GIA cert and the sarin report, I was quite confident that this is it! But I just received pictures of the diamond from my vendor showing a black crystal inclusion near the girdle of the diamond. Vendor says it is not visible with the naked eye. The idealscope pictures also show some light leakage. Now I realize that I am not buying a perfect H&A diamond here, but I am just wondering if the black crystal is the worst type of inclusion for a VS2? Is the degree of light leakage shown in the ideal scope picture within tolerance for a good sparkle? Also, is this a good deal for the price?

I would be greatful for any comments and inputs to this. Thanks in advance for all your help!

Here is the pictures of the diamond. The black crystal is in the eight o'clock position. But it is suppose to be eye clean.

This is the sarin information:

Black, pink or whatever, the size of VS-type inclusions makes them invisible. The 10X pictures may show them, but 10X is allot of magnification. I would not worry about them. Included crystals have no detracting to them as compared to other types of inclusions...

The picture below shows no bad points either. The white spots are features of the cut style itself, as are the white specs around the girdle. You may want to run a search on "tweaked" to see some discussion about these. While some slight variation of the cut can do away with these, I see no reason not to call the image posted a great diamond signature. I strongly believe there is no visual difference between this stone and a microscopically perfect H&A. Just my 0.2, of course.

The one debatable characteristic here - if any - is... size. No, it is not too small

but a stone just above 2 cts will already incorporate some "price jump". The price quoted does not seem to include any significant premium on cut. So the combined arguments of the HCA and Scope picture announcing a great look, are all that more appealing, I would say

Hi Valeria101,
Thanks for the input. Which picture are you referring to when you mention the white spots? I know that there are some clear crystals under the table of the diamond which I don't have a problem with, but my question is if the white arrows in the ideal scope picture is within tolerance for a good sparkle. Also, what do you think of the price? Thanks.

The red scope picture....

I know that there are some clear crystals under the table of the diamond which I don't have a problem with,

Those are NOT visible without magnification, and lots of it... I bet!

[...]but my question is if the white arrows in the ideal scope picture is within tolerance for a good sparkle.

Sure so. The Ideal Scope reference chart, those postes I mentioned and the tutorial on GoodOldGold are all sources you may find details on what such a picture means.

Also, what do you think of the price?

Looks good to me !

... as noted above too.

The Ideal Scope looks fine. Normal for a well cut H&A. As Val stated, not a tweaked facet cut, but just fine. The white areas tend to add a bit of contrast and look to be quite normal for nominal leakage.

The inclusion probably shows because the pic is magnified and the diamond is back lit. Vendor pics typically show diamonds in pics at their worst to highlight everything for the buyer.

Looks like this diamond will be a real sparkler!

Thanks pqcollectibles! What do you think about the price?

I guess the question I also want to ask is how does the diamond community view black inclusions? Are they more/less desirable in comparison to other inclusions like feathers, naturals, clouds, etc...

Well, two things. The diamond has practically no leakage.....the light source is much brighter than most others used (see how WHITE it is around the image?). Those small few areas are the contrast areas in the diamond.

Second, I personally wouldn't worry about the black inclusion.....it looks like it could be easily hidden under a prong.

Proportions on this stone look AMAZING and the idealscope image supports that. Nice find!

I wouldn't worry about the inclusion either. It looks to be a gorgeous stone!

ALJDewey and Pinkangel, thanks for the input. I feel much better now about making this decision. Since I am a newbie, I still need to develop an eye and sense for quality. What about price?

What do you think about the price?

I'll be honest and tell you I don't know much about price. I have a non-ideal cut, one of those 60/60 diamonds that was the thing a few years back...before I got educated about cut. Mine is a 2.47 VS2 J round brilliant, and my DH paid not a whole lot less than your price at a B & M store 6 years ago. To me the price sounds fair, especially for such a great color, but I'm no expert! Just wish I had known then what I know now about cut!!!

The stone looks nice execept for the fact that 2 cts. stones should have a diameter of 8.2mm.+ ,the stone in question is not it's only 8.12mm.which means that the stone is alittle bit on the builtup side.
the price is ok for that kind of stone.
As far as calrity is concerned you have nothing to worry about when it comes to vs quality or better,it should really be minute where you wouldn't be able to see it with the naked eye.

I just did a quick check of comps available from Price Scope Vendors and the price looks great!

Looks like you've picked a winner!!
