I am considering buying this diamond from Blue Nile for engagement. I could not find a equivalent diamond on GOG or WF with same high color quality. I need some feedback if this is a good diamond to purchase. HCA rates it a 0.6% and have the GIA pic posted below. This is probably a newbie question, but I was wondering why this was not a Blue Nile Signature diamond with such great HCA results. Also, on GIA shows a feather which I have confirmed with BN that it s a small white feather in the table, they were not able to tell me how close to the surface this feather was located. Should I be concerned of this feather? They say this diamond is visually clean. Thanks!

shallow shallow but with the long lgf% might be OK.
The SI crystal under the table needs too be checked and the strong fluorescence checked too make sure it isn''t over blue.

Have one of the better PS vendors call it in and get an IS image and an in person eval.

As strmrdr says, get it eyeballed by a trusted jeweller.

What type of measurements would I want so I am not choosing a non shallow stone? As a newbie buyer, I thought the HCA test were a good pointer. Any PS vendors want to help me with calling it in?

I called and they said they were not able to get an IS report for the diamond but they will get a Sarin report. I don''t think that will help any. The blue nile rep said not to believe what people on PS are saying and its all opinion. That if a diamond is GIA Ideal/EX/EX then it should be a near perfect diamond? He asked how the HCA can be a better tool than GIA. What do you guys think?

lol Well, I think that's HIS opinion.

I guess you have to decide whose you want to take.

(and Ideal only goes to AGS)

GIA has a very wide range for their EX cuts. Some are great, some not so much. I think you could find a slightly better cut, but remember, you get what you pay for.

If using the HCA, if you keep the score in the 1-2 range, with the x falling preferably in the overlap area of GIA and AGS, you can't go wrong.

I consider myself a newbie here too, even though I''ve been lurking for years I don''t have the experience or knowledge a true PSer has. That said, this forum is a neutral place where no one stands to profit from what they post here. Blue Nile is a business that has a vested interest in you believing what they tell you.

Going along those lines and from reading the posts here over the years, I''d tend to believe what people here are telling you unless Blue Nile can give you some hard data like idealscope etc to back up their claim. Mix that with the fact they''re trying to tell you all "Excellent" cuts are equal (which is not true, it simply means they''re within a given range of quality, but within that range some are still going to be better than others) and I would do what folks here are recommending.

Here is the Sarin report for the diamond that Blue Nile had the vendor do.

What do you guys think? Looks like its just soso? Is it suppose to say Ideal or Excellent?

Actually, it was kinda funny, he said that everyone here is just giving opinions and I told him that he was doing same. I definitely trust everyone here at PS alot more. I just wanted to write what the BN rep said. Please let me know what you think of the Sarin report. It had scored a .7 on the HCA.

sarin comes out even more shallow shallow than the GIA numbers.
Have it brought in and reviewed by GOG WF Wink ERD or one of the other better PS vendors or move on.
Without an in person review by an expert I would not touch it.

Frankly just move on and dont bother is what I would do myself....

Do you have any suggestions on diamonds you would recommended that are Round Brilliant 1.5C or larger. Around 10k-12k. Thanks.
